Reports from Northern Gaza this morning:
1) Israeli forces' drones continue to target the main gate of Kamal Adwan Hospital, opening fire on it after repeated attacks on the hospital and the surrounding area. 2) Israeli forces struck Abu Tammam school in Beit Lahiya, resulting in casualties. Displaced families taking shelter in Beit Lahiya schools endured a long night of bombardment by drones and shells. Explosions detonated near these schools, sending shrapnel into them.

While we generally don't waste our time commenting on the mealy-mouthed garbage that +972/Local Call Magazine usually produces, some pieces cross the line and must be addressed. After a year of parroting zionist propaganda, Haggai Matar has found a new way to recenter Israelis.🧵 "Grappling with Jewish fears in a just Palestinian struggle" published by Haggai Matar in +972 on November 26, 2024.
"Recognizing Zionism’s settler-colonial nature shouldn’t prevent us from reimagining a collective Jewish existence in this land, or taking seriously the fears that are weaponized to justify Palestinian subjugation."
Before we get into the piece itself and the many, MANY sickening elements it presents (and misrepresents), do the following:

Close your eyes and imagine reading a piece about Nazi fears and rights during the Holocaust.

Hold onto that feeling, because it's not going anywhere.

Yesterday, I sat on a bench in W. Jerusalem, looked up, and realized the "shade" tree was an olive tree. The contrast between Israeli (left) and Palestinian (right) olive trees highlights the differing relationships settlers and native Palestinians have with the land 🧵 Israeli olive tree pruned to give shade, rather than produce olives.
Palestinian olive tree pruned to produce olives rather than shade
Olive tree pruning is a fundamental practice for maintaining the health and productivity of these trees. For centuries, Palestinians have pruned olive trees to enhance yield, ensure longevity, and foster a deep connection to the land that sustains them. 2/

The man opening the trunk of the car is connected to the hilltop settlement meters away and directed the arrest of the family from beginning to the end. The zionist left will frame this as “the cops working with the settlers”, which intentionally obfuscates the situation. 🧵 Image This analysis creates a false dichotomy that there are "Israelis" and there are "settlers," when in reality, Israelis in general are settlers. Police officers are settlers not just as a matter of class identity—they function to animate the system of settler-colonialism.

The "equal rights for all" is the NGO version of "All lives matter."

Within the context of settler-colonialism, the rights of the settler, by design, can only be realized at the expense of the indigenous population.

Statements of this form today advance colonial thought.
🧵 This critical piece highlights how French colonizers used the "equal rights" framework in an attempt to secure voting rights for the settler community to maintain the colonization of the Kanak people. 2/

Between Oct 7 and Sept 6, Israel and Hezbollah, as well as other anti-colonial resistance groups in Lebanon, have exchanged 9,613 attacks. Israel has accounted for 82% — or 7,845 of attacks. This isn't a strategy; it's indiscriminate violence serving colonialism.

A 🧵 Image [ You can interact with this map and ACLED data at ]

Today alone, Israel killed at least 34 Palestinians in attacks on Gaza, including 13 in airstrikes on two homes in Rafah. In Lebanon, 12 people were killed & 66 wounded in an attack on Beirut.

Israel's greatest asset is its ability to enact meaningless, wonton violence and scorched Earth policies.

Palestinian allies can't simply bomb Tel Aviv or Jerusalem w/o the risk of killing Palestinians: Their resistance demands a level of precision not required by Israel. 1/ When people talk about the asymmetrical nature of violence, it isn't because of technological advantages and imperial backing. It's just that zionism, as a mechanism of imperialism, doesn't have moral restrictions. Its only boundaries are those set by capitalist interests. 2/

Indulge us this thread, which responds to a quite a simple lie of a post. Let's peel back some of the layers of deception underlying these claims. A few of them might be less obvious than you think. 🧵 Shurat HaDin published a text block which reads, "Zero Jews live in Ramallah. Zero Jews live in Nablus. Zero Jews live in Jenin. Zero Jews live in Gaza. Approx. [sic] 2 million Arabs live as free citizens in Israel. Numbers don't lie, antisemites do." Shurat HaDin (SHD) is one of these Israeli lawfare groups, registered as a charity in Occupied Palestine, which works to support zionist settlement and publish (bad) propaganda in order to undermine Palestinians' claims to our homeland, and to justice. This claim is no different.

This interactive map we built on top of Unosat geo-coordinates shows Israel's widespread bombing of entrenched communities. This map is more than the logical outworkings of zionism; it is also a visualization of liberal praxis in action. A 🧵 goodshepherdcollective.org/maps/gaza_dama…
A screenshot of an interactive map of the destruction of Gaza. The data at the top levels of US governance is much more granular & comprehensive: They fully understand the breadth of genocide. Harris, Waltz — DSA darlings like AOC and their handlers have all signed off on this.

Very disappointing article by a generally excellent source of news. During a genocide, we don’t need feel-good, meaningless interviews to serve as free marketing for empty claims at expertise, particularly those uplifting grifters. Thread on the article below. 🪡 Vilkomerson and Wise announced this book, presenting themselves as experts on “anti-zionist” organizing and resistance, months ago. Following wide criticism of them, their work, and the timing of the book, its release was delayed and the profits promised to We Are Not Numbers.

The Commission of Detainees' Affairs and the Palestinian Society Prisoners' Club released a statement of accounts from the commission's lawyer, Khaled Mahajna and journalists Muhammad Arab and Tareq Abed.
The following includes accounts of torture, abuse, and sexual violence. 🧵 The journalist Muhammad Arab, before being tranferred from Ofer prison to Sde Teiman camp, witnessed a sick Palestinian prisoner begging for treatment. Arab reports that the prisoner was denied treatment, and instead attacked and murdered by Israeli forces.

It's critical to remember that Zionism, as a form of settler-colonialism, is articulated in service of capitalism. As such, it models its tactics from other colonial powers, learns lessons & adapts. The US bombing of Bach Mai Hospital in 72 provided valuable lessons 🧵 Image Quickly, US legal advisors justified the bombing that killed hundreds. W Hays Park, who served in Vietnam and became a legal advisor and helped issue the 1986 airstrike on Libya, had this to say:

Settler-colonialism is premised on the erasure of the indigenous people. Israel is not an exception to the rule. There is not one metric that suggests that violence waged against Palestinians will subside. Home demolitions across ONLY the EJ & the WB continue to be alarming 🧵

Liberal discourse, in service of the ruling class, deploys its many machinations to scribe the terms of the world around us but, most importantly, defines justice for the oppressed & besieged. In service of zionism, Yousef posits an ethic where the colonizers keep their spoils 🧵 This colonial apologia advances settler-colonialism by arguing to the readers — mostly zionists in this case — that the Palestinian call for justice includes the settlers remaining in stolen lands & stolen homes. 2/

The destruction of Gaza is designed first to kill, then expel & finally segregate the general Palestinian population into small enclaves by selectively destroying critical life-giving infrastructure. Based on Unosat imagery on May 29, 65% of Gaza's roads are destroyed & damaged.

A thread on just some of the documented cases of Israeli sexual assault against Palestinians in Gaza since Oct 7 🧵 15 November 2023: Patients, displaced persons, and health workers were detained, stripped naked, blindfolded by Israeli forces, abducted from a hospital and forcibly taken to another location.

Israel's attack on medical facilities & healthcare workers, while concentrated in Gaza, is a broader tactic put in service of Western imperialism to control the indigenous people past the boundaries of Palestine and in Lebanon & Syria. Imperialism, by definition, has no borders🧵 Map of Israeli attacks on healthcare facilities and workers. Here are a few key events over the last few weeks.

06.03.24: Israeli airstrikes hit the vicinity of a hospital, causing significant damage. Israeli forces also shelled a hospital, severely impacting its operations.

Zionism, is first & foremost, a capitalist project. This is a photo from the 1900s of farmers from Bethlehem preparing to go to the market. With the zionist take over of the Jordan Valley & the industrialization of produce, local farmers that once thrived, now struggle. 1/ Farmers from Bethlehem preparing for the market When some of us do our shopping in the Old City of Bethlehem, the locals explain how hard it is to compete with the way Israel just “dumps” product into market, driving down their prices. 2/

Right now millions are joining the fight against genocide through global encampments, sparking a commitment to Palestinian liberation Education is key to solidarity—defining terms matters. Here's why JVP's definition of antizionism problematic and what to do about it. A thread 🧵 JVP defines anti-zionism as "a loose term referring to criticism of the current policies of the Israeli state". Even settler orgs like Regavim, El Ad & JStreet criticize Israeli policies. zionism, a settler-colonial project, can only be undone through decolonization.
