1/ Put aside Biden’s ruinous moral failure on Gaza and on the related current US campus crises; I am shocked that he and his team appear in denial about the political suicide he is committing as a result. 2/ Team Biden hopes that those angry with him over Gaza will come back to him, if only to keep Trump away. Many will, but many absolutely will not, unless he profoundly changes course – and even that may not be enough.

1/6 Forgive me for joining trend of threads on 9/11.
I want to share my 5-point critique of Bush’s ‘war on terrorism’ that I published in 2002, in my book The Stakes and in the Cornell International Law Journal: scholarship.law.cornell.edu/cgi/viewconten… 2/6

1/4: Conventional wisdom is that the rapid collapse of Afghan army has been disastrous. I have a different take. It probably saved hundreds if not thousands of lives. We are told that the US and everyone else knew the Taliban would win, but not within days, but weeks or months. 2/4: But what would intense fighting have generated other than killing more Afghanis and creating more misery, if the outcome was a forgone conclusion? Sure, it could have made US withdrawal less ‘messy.’ But so far, casualties have been limited, and evacuations accelerated.

1/13: @PeterBeinart has generated an important debate about Israel/Palestine, where things are headed, and what choices will be faced. This thread reflects my thoughts about the piece and the reactions to it so far:
jewishcurrents.org/yavne-a-jewish… 2/13: I am not in a position to address liberal Zionism’s true aims, or how Jewish identity does or should inform those who hold it, so I will not address objections directed at Beinart from these angles, important as they are to a key intended audience.
