Questions to be raised: The Sagadahoc Sheriff Joel Merry whose department investigated Maine Shooter’s threats told the AP — “We couldn’t locate him,” Merry said, adding that he couldn’t recall if there was any follow-up because “I don’t have any reports in front of me.” However, our reporting indicates there was follow-up. In fact a sergeant from his dept. went to the shooters home on Sept 16 believed he was inside. The sergeant was at “disadvantageous“ position and called for a second car to respond.

Police tried to check on the Maine gunman over concerns he could ‘snap and commit a mass shooting’ | CNN cnn.com/maine-shooting… Brave sources came forward with information after they felt officials here were not being transparent. 🧵 The more we learn about the DPS/Texas Rangers investigating its own about the response to the Robb Elementary shooting — the more it’s raising questions. The breakdown in communication that day is really stunning. Here’s what some DPS officials told the Rangers in interviews: John Miller the head of DPS swat: “Initially the word was there’s a barricaded shooter, but he’s shooting at law enforcement in a school,” he said. “There was no information after that regarding if there was hostages.”

As acting Uvalde police chief resigns, questions remain about what Texas's top law enforcement agency did and didn't know about the school shooting | CNN cnn.com/2022/11/17/us/… The new audio obtained by CNN reveals a woman from “DPS in Austin” calling the Uvalde police dispatchers to get more information apparently to give to the specialist DPS teams being sent to help, including SWAT.

It’s standard procedure for investigators not to release certain information while investigations are ongoing. However, Uvalde has been a different kind of situation - and at the very least an exception should be made because the initial information was so inaccurate. Today we learned there are 34 body cameras. We have only seen 7. The mayor against the advise of the DA and others released those 7, which are from the Uvalde police.

This moment among many.

Officers standing around doing nothing. This is painful to watch. We know what’s on the other side of walls. They seem to have no clue what to do. How is this possible? one of the most critical moments occurs here with officers retreating and running for cover in the minutes after they entered the school. Training teaches them to press the fight. Clearly not happening here.

Uvalde families are expressing outrage at the leak of video:

Javier Cazares whose daughter was killed told reporters, “we were supposed to get some footage shown to us on Sunday of the filming inside the hallway and then we got a call, another parent got a call saying that someone got a hold of it. It got released and got leaked. They didn’t have our permission from us to do so.”

No one can understand why the Uvalde DA is claiming to have power over the DPS in preventing them from releasing the video. @GregAbbott_TX has the full power to order the DPS to release whatever they want. They have certainly already released information. This makes no sense. Furthermore, the release of information shouldn’t stop with the hallway video. Police radio transmissions from that day should also be released as has been requested.

#Statement from Uvalde school superintendent It’s pretty concerning that the school superintendent hasn’t been briefed by the DPS on the investigation. McCraw spent a lot of time yesterday before the committee raising serious issues with the schools doors, windows, just security overall.

Here we go. Mayor of Uvalde tonight at a city council meeting:

“ I'm gonna be throwing people under the bus tonight in a speech because for too long, we've been told we can't talk,  we can't answer, and we can't say anything. Today that's over with,” he said. Mayor says DPS Colonel lied about the events that took place the day of the shooting

Uvalde update. We have it in writing.
Here’s the latest timeline that officials will be presenting at the senate hearing today. This is the most extensive timeline we have had access to. Also and this is important for the first time we have information about radio transmissions. We have been asking for them and we now know why they’re so critical to understanding what was happening.

🧵Sat in on the heartbreaking school board meeting tonight. In some ways felt like a group therapy session with families getting together in a public way. One thing in common they want accountability. Lilliana Garcia the daughter of Irma Garcia, the teacher who was killed, spoke about the magnitude of her loss after losing both parents. Her father Jose Garcia died of heart attack days later.

Wounded Uvalde teacher spoke to ABC News:

"One of the students from the next-door classroom was saying, 'Officer, we're in here. We're in here,'" Reyes said. "But they had already left." abcnews.go.com/US/News/act-as… Reyes say he heard police officers outside the classroom as a child in the next room called for help, he said, adding that he believes the officers had walked away at that point, having not heard the pleas.

I went back and looked at the press conference that the DPS regional Director, Victor Escalon, conducted on May 26. I have even more questions. He stood before the cameras defending the actions of the police 24 hours before his boss would finally come out and admit mistakes. What changed in those 24 hours?
Escalon talked about a negotiator.
He said officers were kept at bay by the gunman. Said it would take time to interview all the officers who were inside the school. He said investigators need to know what those officers were thinking.

On the 9-1-1 calls — here is how we are reporting it: The Commission on State Emergency Communications told Texas State Senator Roland Gutierrez that the 9-1-1 calls were handled by and relayed to the city’s police force on the scene. We don’t know anything about the radios school police have access to. Do they have access to local police frequency? Remember it essentially a 4 person police force plus the chief.
