Welcome onboard the very first commercial journey of @ceskedrahy_ Prague 🇨🇿 - Copenhagen 🇩🇰

Currently joining the train in Berlin, I’ll be spending 10 hours on this cozy train all the way to Denmark! 🚆

As you can see, the train is more busy! Image

Currently stuck in Lüneburg due to a catenary failure between here and Hamburg!

Even though we have a lot of buffer in Hamburg, our train will be heavily delayed 😔 Image

Earlier this week, I traveled on the #TrenMaya between Campeche and Cancun in the heart of the Yucatán Peninsula 🇲🇽

There’s so much to say about this new service, but one thing’s for sure: the Tren Maya will deeply transform the region.

Here’s an honest thread about it 🧵👇 Image
Image

The Tren Maya project was approved by a 2019 regional referendum with a 92.3% approval rate(!)

It spans 1,544km of new rail across Yucatán!
Its goal is to promote economic development, tourism, and connectivity while preserving cultural heritage and supporting sustainable growth Image

This is Mexico’s newest interurban train: El Insurgente 🚆🇲🇽

I tried it yesterday between Santa Fe and Zinacantepec, and this is commuter rail done RIGHT!

Except for a few things, it’s an amazing new service that will definitely help reduce traffic 🚫🚗

Here’s a thread 🧵 Image

El Insurgente is a new interurban line that connects Toluca and Mexico City via a brand new 57,7km line.

The first section opened between Zinacantepec and Santa Fe.

The connection to Observatorio, with Line 1 of the subway, is not ready yet. Image

Last week, I traveled on the Rocky Mountaineer’s "First Passage to the West" between Vancouver and Banff, right in the heart of the Canadian Rockies 🇨🇦🏔️

This is probably the best rail journey of my life. Words fail me, but "insanity" seems fitting 🤯

Here’s a thread 🧵 👇 Image

@rmountaineer operates three routes through the Canadian Rockies and one in the U.S.

These trains are primarily marketed as luxury journeys through breathtaking landscapes.

I traveled their U.S. route last year and was already impressed by the quality of service Image

This week I traveled to Ukraine onboard the international night trains operated by @Ukrzaliznytsia 🚆🇺🇦

Budapest 🇭🇺 to Kyiv 🇺🇦 and Kyiv 🇺🇦 to Warsaw 🇵🇱

Here’s a thread about my adventures on Ukrainian night trains 🧵⬇️

Despite the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, @Ukrzaliznytsia still operates several international night trains to Austria, Hungary, Moldova, Poland…

For this trip, I will be traveling on the Vienna 🇦🇹 - Budapest 🇭🇺 - Kyiv 🇺🇦 route, and I will return via Warsaw 🇵🇱 Image

From Budapest 🇭🇺 to Split 🇭🇷 onboard the wonderful seasonal night train, the IC #Adria and oh boy, it was just PERFECT! 🤝

Night trains perfected by the Hungarians!

Here’s a thread 🧵

The train is seasonal, running three times a week in each direction from June 18th until September 30th.

For me, that’s near-perfect scheduling. It departs around 19:00 and arrives before 10:00, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the train, sleep well, the scenery, and more 👀 Image

Yesterday, I traveled from Brașov in Romania 🇷🇴 to Budapest in Hungary 🇭🇺 on a little-known night train—the IC #Corona (yes, that’s its name)

And let me tell you why it’s probably the BEST way to travel by night train between the two countries…

Here’s a thread 🧵

The train runs daily between Budapest and Brașov, taking a longer route via Debrecen, Dej Călători, and Gheorgheni. The departure time isn’t too late, allowing you to enjoy the journey for a long time.

Departure from Brașov is at 18:51.

Belgrade 🇷🇸 to Sofia 🇧🇬 by train in 2024?

That’s what I attempted yesterday, and oh boy, it was painful (yes, I’m looking at you, Serbian infrastructure 👀)

Here’s a thread 🧵

For context, I traveled this route back in 2019. Even then, it was a long ride from Belgrade to Sofia—10 hours and 22 minutes in total! The train wasn’t great, but it was still a valid option at the time.

Yesterday, I finally traveled on what is probably the most scenic railway line in Europe: the line between Bar in Montenegro 🇲🇪 and Belgrade in Serbia 🇷🇸

I’ve heard about this line for years, and all the hype was 100% validated ✅

Here’s a thread about this journey 🧵

Image

The line is relatively ‘new’ compared to other lines in Europe, completed in 1976 during the Yugoslav era!

It links Belgrade and Bar on the Adriatic - 476 km, fully electrified at 25kV ⚡️

Two trains run the full route: one night train, the Lovćen, and one during the day! Image

Yesterday, I traveled onboard the last train of the season for the #EspressoRiviera, operated by Treni Turistici Italiani, between Nice 🇫🇷 and Milan 🇮🇹

Folks, you’re not ready for how amazing this train is… 🤯

Here’s a thread 🧵

After an outstanding experience onboard TTI's night train back in June, I wanted to check out their daytime train between Nice and Milan, the #EspressoRiviera 🌴

Originally scheduled to run between Milan and Ventimiglia (🇮🇹), the train was extended to Nice (🇫🇷) as a test… Image

This morning I took the new #Eurocity service between Brussels and Paris, the classic way 🇧🇪🚆🇫🇷

Despite being twice as long as @Eurostar via the high-speed line, this train is a godsend. Here’s why it’s a good thing …

A thread 🧵

As you may know, for more than twenty years, Brussels and Paris have been connected via the high-speed line. It links the two capitals in just 1h22. Amazing, right? Well, not in my opinion… Image

Welcome onboard the new #EspressoCadore by @fsitaliane « Treni Turistici Italiani » 🇮🇹🚆

Private sleeping car compartment for the night, full dining car, this is going to be fun ride 🤩

Interestingly, the night train fleet from Treni Turistici is from the old Thello fleet, the former operator of the Paris - Venice night train that stopped operations in 2020

Quite weird to see an old couchette transformed as a sleeping car but the job is done greatly 🤩

Yesterday, I took the #TGVInoui from Paris to Milan, despite the line being blocked by a landslide in the French Alps since August 2023. So, how does it work now? 🇫🇷🚄🇮🇹

Here’s a thread 🧵 Image First things first: @TGVINOUI to Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne in the French Alps. This is the last commercial stop before the landslide.

Departure from Paris at 14:48.

The rolling stock is the same as it used to be, a TGV Réseau 🚄

#NightjetOnTour - COUCHETTE REVIEW 🌙🚆🇦🇹

This is the biggest innovation onboard the new Nightjet, the couchette car is equipped with private compartment called « mini-cabin » and this is the first we’ve seen an innovation like this in the train industry since decades…

🧵 👇

This is the inside once the compartment is closed (you open with a key card)

The total length is 192cm which is plenty of room. I never felt oppressed at all. Even though I’m a large guy and love to have some room! Even if you’re sitting up as you can see on the video 😎

Since I have quite some time to kill, here’s a HONEST thread about my night on the Astra sleeping cars 🇷🇴

⬇️ Image First thing first, they look fantastic! If you compare this to most sleeping cars, the Astra are better than most sleeping cars on the market now in Europe. Modern, roomy and enjoyable
