MKO Abiola was a philanthropist, he was also likable and perhaps one of Nigeria's most leading political figures in history. People voted for him massively, but that was simply because they believed in his generosity.

However, no one knew the actual source of his wealth. MKO Abiola was so rich that people believed he could never steal public funds. That was how his campaign thrived. MKO was loved. MKO was revered. But in a country that was desperate to get out of military rule, and to get the tanks off the road. No one cared about his source.
