If it will inspire the younger ones (or anyone at all), retelling the story of Taiwo Oyedele’s career

1. Born in a village in Ondo State in mid 1970s

2. Almost denied admission into primary school at 5 because he was small and his left hand could not touch the right ear Image 3. Accepted only because his twin sister’s hand could do. And they were born same day. You can’t say Kehinde is ripe for primary education and not Taiye born on same day.

4. He was consistently the best student in his class through primary and secondary schools

1. Crude oil (oil from the ground) is processed and converted to petroleum products.

2. The conversion process is called refining

3. The products are many (diesel, jet fuel, kerosene, petrol etc), but the most relevant one here is petrol

4. Nigeria has abundant crude oil 5. But it is not the crude oil you use to power your cars, generators and other machines. It is these products.

6. Nigeria has 4 government-owned crude processing plants (refineries) but they are not working

7. So we need to sell the crude to foreign buyers who in turn process

How to Deliver Public Lecture in Nigeria

Sample Topic: The Role of Western Hegemony and Religious Imperialism in Dismantling the Building Blocks of African Socio-Cultural Milieu

2 hours lecture

First 10 minutes: Define West. What is the West? Who is a westerner?

1/
Next 5 minutes: Define "hege"

Next 5 minutes: Define "mony"

Next 5 minutes: Rant about hegemony and some Max Weber theories.

Bring 10 definitions of hegemony according to different authors, never mind that only one word is different from each's definition

One of my closest friends picked up a unit of Fortrose Court this week (what will be his 2nd house in Lagos) and it evokes memories & lessons in friends supporting each other in course of life.

In May 2008, fresh after NYSC, I resumed at a coy in VI as an accounting officer 1/ I never liked accounting, I was given the opportunity because they saw in my CV I was writing ICAN exams and winning prizes.

So there I was, thrown into real accounting, to manage the accounting records of a company with over 500 chains of filling stations.

FGN’s Executive Order 007 - Road Infrastructure Tax Credit (a form of tax) not a revenue loss.

1. You use money to pay tax to build or refurbish an approved/eligible road

2. Govt (thru MoF & MoW) certifies the Project Cost

3. Your tax reduces by the amount of project cost 4. Plus a top-up (called uplift) set at CBN MPR rate + 2%

5. MPR currently 17.5%. Hence uplift of 19.5%

6. So if you spend 100m on a road project, and certified, your tax reduces by 119.5m

7. The top-up is to incentivize you because if it’s kobo for kobo, why waste effort

Once in an Aberdeen restaurant simultaneously munching the Chinese rice and reading my material for an exam I had the next day.

One young psycho (who should be in mid-20s) just came to sit by my side and collected my book, read a line and said "this is rubbish, everything in this book is rubbish".

Aggressively charging at me, sometimes asking me incoherent questions about the material and ending with "rubbish".

I was the only customer there at that time and I was surprised the waiters did not call him to order for disturbing a customer

How would Buhari have defeated Obj in 2003?

Yes, Obj’s 24m votes was a heist, but if you factor our the malpractices, Buhari still will not close the 12m gap.

The dynamics of 2015 were different from those of 2003. Who was the 2015 BAT equivalent for Buhari in the SW in 2003? Who was the 2015 Amaechi equivalent for Buhari in Rivers in 2003?

Did Harry Marshal of 2003 have the clout and state machinery/resources of 2015 Amaechi in Rivers?

Who was the 2015 Rochas equivalent for Buhari in Imo in 2003?

Massive rigging in all Nigerian past presidential elections.

2007 so bad that even final results only scantily available publicly and the elected Yar’adua confirmed irregularity

2003 and 2011 also highly suspicious across board.

Technology (card reader) introduced from 2015 Image All said, I personally do not think all the malpractices altered the winner in any way.

Rigging or no rigging, Buhari could not have defeated Obj with ANPP in 2003

Buhari (ANPP) & Atiku (AC) could not have defeated Yar’adua in 2007

JARUS PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION FORECAST

Updated 23 Feb 2023

Previous forecast released on 11 Feb

What changed?
1. INEC released actual PVC collection data today. Forecast estimated for the estimate used

2. Updated for significant developments based on field reports from Anambra, Benue, Jigawa, Kebbi, & Zamfara. Changes affected distribution of votes. Slight change in Rivers too. No change significant enough to affect our previous distribution in other states.

No change to voters’ turnout rate estimated in previous forecast.

Head to Head: AA vs BAT vs PO

Here is my view of how their government will look like. Not based on manifestos (believe Nigerian candidate’s manifestos at your peril), but based on antecedents and knowledge of the candidates’ tendencies and inclinations.

Let’s go

(Thread) AA

His government to look like a blend of Obasanjo’s & IBB’s - liberal, some far reaching sectoral policies here and there. Likely to revive privatization trend put on hold by PMB (who’s looking to start more state-led enterprises eg Nigeria Airways).

Odanz knows 🇳🇬 politics!

In my view the best demonstration of understanding of 🇳🇬 politics I have seen in this season of election forecasting.

Slightly different from mine (& that’s ok) but largely agreeable (we can’t see things 100% same & we weigh factors differently)

1/ My comments

1. He didn’t put number to his projections (unlike mine), would be interesting if the ranking was quanitified

2. I agree with him that PDP has the spread

3. I disagree on his projections in a few states (eg in my Kwara, I think APC is winning with a decent margin)

TURNOUT

Turnout is projected at average of 41%, higher than national average of 30% - 35% in previous election cycles since PVC was introduced

Nawa for you o

It’s this exact behaviour of imputing motive to everything that made me use enemy, even though I put it in quotes, which means it wasn’t anything serious, not enemy in the sense of the word. But we used to “fight” a lot, mostly because you are always coming up with spurious accusations like you just did here, accusing me of leaving to start my own. I left moderatorship in Jan 2013 after the Achebe matter, but I did not leave NL. I opened JarusHub in March. It had

How I Built a Business & a Brand From Social Media Posts: The Story of JarusHub

In 2007, during my NYSC in Sokoto, and also studying for my ICAN exams, anytime I got bored from reading at the Sokoto University’s Medical Campus classrooms, I strolled to the campus’ cybercafe

1/
I burned the 1 hour surfing Internet, applying for jobs, checking emails and following football news. I came across a website called Nairaland in the course of these online burrowing and formally registered to be able to participate in discussions on the site in July 2007.

Head-to-Head: Atiku vs BAT vs PO

Personal view of the potential outlook of their presidency

Put in a room, given white board and marker and asked to analyse the governance outlook of the 3 candidates based on what I know of them, here is what I will write

(Thread) Atiku

👍
- Likeliest to settle fastest of the 3; likeliest to be used to governance bureaucratic procedures

- Private sector & business friendliness, privatization & commercialization pursuits

- Unifying

As a student of Nigerian political history , another reason I believe BAT will do well in the North (not as much as PMB but likely to beat Atiku by a decent margin) is that amana (trust) philosophy of the North.

I think the North does not betray, or, well,

1/
it keeps political promise. And there is a trend to this.

After a Shagari 1979-83, the North strongly supported a southerner, MKO in the next dispensation.

MKO never got there. And they still kept the promise by rewarding Obasanjo when the dust settled.
