Call it what you want - the Republican Civil War, the Neocon Gambit, or, as @_jburden and @NormanDodd_knew, deem it, the GOP Samson Option, there's obviously a struggle for future control of the Right on in full force.
First, the players.
Trump. The MAGA Lion, but the king of the pride is not long for rulership. The man is coming up on 80 years old, is termed out, and by most indications wants his time through 2028 used well, but also wants the baton handed to a worthy successor.
