It’s still so unbelievable to tell people he’s dead. Dead dead dead. I still want to call him up and tell him, “do you know people are saying you’re dead?” and hear him laugh at the absurdity of it.
It’s so unbelievable that I have to admit that it’s hard to admit that he’s dead. I’m married, I have a baby and a dog and a house and a whole wonderful new life. And most days I’m fine, but then it hits me, a wave of memory that crashes in grief.

You should cultivate at least one interest in your life that literally no one around you cares about so that one day you may flourish into a deep eccentricity rather than depend on a faux contrarianism to foster your sense of independence & uniqueness

yes, it is. That’s the point. Facing loneliness and learning you can survive it is necessary for resilience. And having something to escape to when you are lonely is a good coping mechanism.
