Sorry for the long silence, busy times 😂

We’re now custodians of 4 acres of fields which had not been worked in 18 years.

It’s 2 acres more than we thought we were buying (when finally surveyed properly for the sale). We’re aiming for being as fully self sufficient as practical which means polytunnels & harvest preservation.

Even with that in mind 4 acres is a lot of land for us.

1/20 A long thread, about our overall aims at Seven Acres.
We started with a field of pasture; initially let out for grazing cattle, then brought an acre into cultivation for growing, letting remainder for silage. Ploughed by neighbour, then rotavated with two-wheeled tractor. 2/20 The first year of outdoor growing went well, with good harvests, but the ground proved unmanageable. We simply did not have the equipment, or the money to buy it, needed to maintain the ground, & the weeds took over. What had started as a veg patch ended up as a weed farm.

Was at Temple Bar #FoodMarket this afternoon, picked up some nice cheeses, greens & olives.
I like listening to stall holders about their produce. To the question of how we can re-connect the city with food producers - are we totally disconnected? The old city has street names like Cornmarket, Lamb Alley, Fishamble street showing the long history of food markets in the city. Can't develop a city without the ability to feed it. #FoodMarkets
