Since sharing details of where the wind turbine components for Kirk Hill wind farm are coming from we’ve had lots of Qs about why we’re not using turbines made in the UK. Basically - there are no factories making major onshore wind components in the UK.

20 years ago there were a few, making blades and towers. But lack of government commitment to onshore wind + other reasons have meant over the years they’ve all gone.

The Electricity Prices Bill is being rushed through Parliament on Monday.

Consumer + cooperative owned wind farms must be exempted from the Bill’s revenue cap.

They are fundamentally different to wind farms owned by big utilities or huge infrastructure funds. People own wind farms so they can have their own source of low cost, stable priced green power.

They can only own what they need to meet their electricity needs.

It’s not an investment vehicle but a way to act on climate and stabilise their energy bills.
