The ‘biological book club’ part of that EHCR letter, as much as it seems absurd, is actually the most chilling part.

It completely discards the pretence that this was never about ‘safety’ or ‘protecting’ anyone, it’s just simple, prejudice-fuelled, exclusionary bigotry. They’re leaning right into, “We want to be able to exclude you from any space, at any time, without even trying to prove it’s necessary or proportionate, because we hate you.”

There’s literally no other reason for admittance to a book club to be governed by genitals.

This should be the top story on every channel until this govt takes action to prevent more avoidable deaths or fucks off forever.

But it won’t be. It’ll last for one cycle halfway down the bulletins before they go back to obsessing about boats and penises. The impact of energy prices is enormous. I have to keep my heating on high because I have a medical condition that is exacerbated by cold. My monthly payments were double what I paid last winter, but I recently found out we’re £1300 in debit, so they’re now going up to triple.

Are you seeing the fucking pattern yet?

Tories: *create circumstances in which people are likely to become homeless*

People: *become homeless, have no choice but to beg and sleep rough*

Tories: “We will crack down on begging and rough sleeping.”

Tories: *remove funding for virtually all youth services/diversionary activities for young people*

Teenagers: *congregate outside with their mates because there’s fuck all else to do*

Tories: “We will crack down on these gangs of youths and their anti-social behaviour.”

How to tell if someone is a feminist:

• they speak about stuff like abortion rights, gender pay gap, abolishing women’s prisons, appalling rape conviction rates etc.

How to tell if someone is just a horrible bigot:

• they speak obsessively and exclusively about trans people It’s really fucking simple. There are a thousand more pressing issues that affect women than who pisses where, or who gets to play rugby with whom.

If they’re focusing on this shit and not on the really important stuff, it’s not out of anything other than hatred of trans people.

Trans woman: “I have the same hormonal profile as a cis woman but don’t want gender affirming surgery because it’s too invasive and I’m scared of potential complications.”

‘GC’: “You’re not even making the effort! You are just a MAN with a PENIS! Stay out of our spaces!”

[1/4] Trans woman: “I do want bottom surgery, but it’s currently more than 5 years for a GIC appointment, and years more after that until surgery is...”

‘GC’: “Though shit. I had to wait 7 months for them to look at my ingrown toenail, but you don’t hear me complaining.”

Some thoughts on today’s transphobic discourse (replies off, because…y’know):

• some trans women are sex offenders
• some cis women are sex offenders
• in both cases, it is a tiny minority
• all sex offenders present a threat to other incarcerated people

[1/8] • when deciding where to imprison sex offenders, consideration should primarily be given to protecting other prisoners from potential abuse

• this is determined on a case-by-case basis and is not, and has never been, affected by the GRA/GRR

If you are at all minded to believe that the ‘gender critical’ movement isn’t just a transphobic hate cult, that they are, as they say, ‘decent people’ with ‘legitimate concerns’, I’d like to offer you a few thoughts from a personal perspective.

[longish thread - 1/10] So, people who self-identify as ‘gender critical’ will say their concerns are around ‘safety’, around ‘protecting women and girls’ from ‘predatory men’ and ‘preserving women-only spaces’.

It’s not about hating gender-diverse people, what an outrageous thing to suggest! [2/10]

Unsurprisingly, this editorial is full of transphobic lies about ‘access to spaces’, which, as anyone who knows what the fuck they’re talking about has pointed out repeatedly, is affected in NO FUCKING WAY WHATSOEVER by the GRA.

Fuck this entire publication. To be perfectly clear, access to spaces is covered by the Equality Act, and it is permitted under that act to exclude individual trans people - even those with a GRC - if it is reasonable and proportionate to do so (say, where there’s a history of sexual violence).

Bit of a medium-length thread on my use of the word ‘genocide’ in a tweet about Florida’s new anti-trans rules yesterday.

Needless to say, I received several replies along the lines of:

“Hysteria! Hyperbole! It’s not like trans people are being put in death camps!” There are a couple of points to note in response to this.

To begin with, ‘death camps’ are never the starting point of any genocidal campaign.

It would be impossible to lurch from ‘everything is fine’ to ‘round up this group and kill them’ in one step.

Came out for a walk and stopped at a little village pub. Pretty sure everyone in here is a Tory so I’m being extra camp to ruin their afternoon. Already had two pints and just ordered a bottle of red.

*campness intensifies*

Some reflections on the #CisWithTheT hashtag that’s been trending for a few hours.

If you’re one of those people who isn’t very online, or is not familiar with LGBTQ issues, and you don’t know what to think, have a look down that topic and see if you notice anything. 1/4 At the start of the day, it was overwhelmingly cis women, including many survivors of sexual violence, saying, “We love and support trans women, you are absolutely entitled to be in women’s spaces, and you are not a threat to our rights or safety by virtue of being trans.” 2/4
