These verses in Yuddha Kanda have been used to portray Rama in a certain way. Between Balakanda & Yuddha Kanda, in Ramayana there are many inter-related events which are not widely known & these inter-related led to Agni Pravesha by Sita. What exactly are they? Let us see. 1 Usually it is said that Rama asked Sita to enter fire & term it as Agni Pariksha. But Rama had only asked Sita to go with any man she likes. It was Sita who decides to enter fire. Hence Agni Pravesha. Moot question is whether it was right on Rama's part to act in such a way? 2

A thread on some rational thinking based on common questions.

1. Why is Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec 9, 10,11,12 th months while they mean 7,8,9,10?
2. Why February alone has 28 days?
3. Why should you adjust for leap years?
4. Why is there no leap year adjustment in Tamil Calendar? Ask anyone around, you cannot find answers to such questions through what is taught in schools.

When you make an effort to find answers, you will be surprised about how religion has played an important role in the design of modern Gregorian Calendar. 2

Some questions had bothered me for a long time. Why are Vedas taught by hearing & listening rather than books?
Why was it rote learning?
What is the need to teach and practice so many variations of the basic text?
Answers to these will add a relevant perspective 1/n The most authoritative scriptures of Hinduism like Vedas & Upanishads are also referred to as Shrutis, those which were heard and transmitted. Sound is analog in nature. Converting it into text in the form of syllables makes it discrete resulting in losses 2/n

To explore why Sunday is the weekend, we will have to discuss the following points
1. Why are there seven days in a week?
2. How did we get the names & what is the basis?
3. What is basis for designating some days as holidays?
4. How did we get 5 working days and 2 holidays 1/n Let us start with why should a week have seven days. It is in Babylonia and India that earliest reference to the 7 day week exists. In Babylonia, the quarter moon (actually the half moon) was celebrated and this usually fell on 7th day. 2/n

Today is #TamilNewYear day. But which year? For e.g. it is 2024 in English Calendar. What is it in Tamil Calendar? It is 5125 years in Kaliyuga. This Kali epoch has a very special astronomical significance which is detailed in this thread. 1/n

In short, a unique conjunction of all visible planets happened in Aries (Mesha) 5125 years before. Hence Yugadi (start of Yuga) and the solar transition into Mesha which heralds #TamilPuthandu happened on that day. If so why are they celebrated on different days now? 2/n

Today is #Ugadi / #yugadi. It is the first day of the New Year in the Luni-Solar Calendar followed in Andhra, Karnataka. So why is it named Yuga+Adi (Yugadi) means starting of the yuga? This is the day on which Kali Yuga started? How do we know that? 1/n The answer to that is found in the Solar Calendar followed in another South Indian state, TamilNadu. It is possibly the only calendar that consistently keeps track of the number of year past the epoch Kali yuga. So what is special about the epoch 5124 years before? 2/n Image

Here are few excerpts from famous Spur Tank speech of Dr. T.M.Nair in the year 1917.

1. Let us first start with words used for media - "fraud, fake news, gutter newspaper like @the_hindu helps Brahmins build their selfish political power and prestige". Decent & kind words🙂1/n Image Actually Kasturi of @the_hindu group had a history of being against the "Mylapore Brahmin clique" of those times. But still the communal statement had to be made and the media attacked. Not sure under what benchmark does this nastiness come. 2/n

Key words: I like Hindi as a language, speak it very well. But it should not be thrust on my throat.
Great! If it is a good language & you had access to it & was not particularly disadvantaged because of that additional knowledge, why thrust denying that opportunity to others 1/n In a recent tweet thread in Tamil while analyzing the arguments related to CRPF examinations in English and Hindi, I found how the Hindi imposition politics is exactly what the liberals will otherwise brand as Brahminical system of denying knowledge. This information of temple control being under select few is historically wrong. In Madras presidency, temple elections were initiated by 1863 act, much before SILF. Kumbakonam temple election was won by Mr.T.Ponnusami Nadar. 1/n
Wealthy landowners like Appasami Vandyar, Sivaswami Odayar also controlled this temple. In 1915 Raja of Ramnad took over. To retain control of these powerful institutions, not social justice was the objective of law brought in by Justice Party. 2/n

Hmm. So Ashok converting to Buddhism after Kalinga battle is also not true. At this rate what needs to be “cancelled” is the education of history in India. Phew. This article by @sanjeevsanyal (taken from a comment in this thread) gives the nitty gritty details of the Emperor who wasn’t benevolent. Would have spread Shoka all around it seems. Now where is NCERT?
