Tal, his wife, Adi, and two children, Yahel (3) and Naveh (8), were visiting family on Kibbutz Be’eri that weekend, when the October 7, 2023, Hamas massacre unfolded. Tal described the initial moments that horrific morning, “At 6:30 in the morning, we wake up because my father-in-law, Avshal of blessed memory [Avshalom Haran – who was murdered later that day], came to our room where we were sleeping on the second floor, knocking intensely on the door. We realized that a "red alert" siren [indicating incoming rockets] is about to sound. Instinctively, after so many years of experience, each of us grabs one of the children, and we run to the safe room on the lower floor.”
During the October 7, 2023, Hamas massacre in southern Israel, the Kalderon family was not all together in one place. Ofer and Hadas, have four children. At the time, two of their children — Sahar, who was 16, and Erez, who was 12 — were with Ofer. Hadas and their son Rotem, then 19, were in two separate apartments, while their eldest daughter, Gaya, was in Tel Aviv. On that horrific day, Ofer, Sahar, and Erez were kidnapped, while the others survived and were not kidnapped.

Emily recalled the early moments of that horrific day, “…That morning, we realized something was different – I could feel something was wrong with my body, and my hand started shaking on its own, it wasn’t under my control.”
Ori recounted her time in captivity in Gaza, “For the entire 23 days [of captivity in Gaza], the fear did not leave me for a moment. A fear that at any second, you could die.”
Edan was held in tunnels, schools, apartments, mosques, and displaced persons tents. During one transfer, Edan was hidden in a donkey cart and smuggled through a crowded Gaza market. A Hamas terrorist disguised as a woman transported him through the market.
Edan was held hostage by senior Hamas terrorists. He was kept informed about developments in the war and was told that, because of his American citizenship, he was a 'valuable asset’ to the terror group.
According to testimonies from fellow former hostages, Alon was seriously wounded by grenade shrapnel during his kidnapping. He lost sight in one eye and suffered severe head injuries.
On October 7, 2023, Ron was working at the Nova Festival in southern Israel when Hamas terrorists launched their brutal massacre. He was kidnapped into Gaza.
Matan Angrest (21), an IDF soldier and tank driver from the Nahal Oz base in southern Israel, awoke to the Hamas terrorist massacre on October 7, 2023. He and his tank crew—Captain Daniel Perez (22), Sergeant Tomer Leibovitz (19), and Israeli-American Sergeant Itay Chen (19)—fought heroically to defend the area. Their tank was struck by an anti-tank missile. Daniel, Itay, and Tomer were killed. The bodies of Itay and Daniel were kidnapped into Gaza, and Matan, still alive, was horrifically pulled from the tank, beaten, lynched, and dragged into Gaza.

Shortly after reaching a roadside shelter—one that would later be known as the "shelter of death"—more and more people began to gather there. Soon, they received alerts warning that terrorists had infiltrated Israel.

Reports reveal that, for months, Nimrod was horrifically confined in a cage designed for small animals.
"We were six people in the [Hamas terror] tunnel, 30 meters [≈98 feet] underground, beneath six meters [≈20 feet] of concrete and sand—without air to breathe. We slept pressed together on a thin, damp, and wet mattress, with the same blanket that had been used as a sheet for over a year. The pillow was made of cut foam with mold, and we had one additional blanket to cover ourselves.”
