Here's how the NFL league office analyzed the equity of the new overtime format in 2022. This research was presented to owners & coaches as part of the rules change proposed by PHI (Jon Ferrari) and IND (Frank Reich), the two folks most responsible for the modification
(1/n) Two notes:

First, the focus of our work was reg season equity (10:00 fixed), though it could be extended to the postseason (no ties, 15:00 quarters) with minimal adjustment.

Second, these slides were intentionally high level. The simulations behind some of this are awesome tho

We're one week into the NFL's Big Data Bowl, and happy to say that there's been substantial interest and participation numbers look great #BigDataBowl (1/n) Player tracking data can look overwhelming at first, so figured it was worth sharing some brief advice. I'll work through a fun, albeit somewhat silly question: how far is each kicker's extra point from the middle of the uprights? (2/n)
