Why creatives are seeking residuals vs. "do you pay the mattress maker every time you sleep on a mattress?"

A thread.

I keep hearing over and over again that writers/actors/creatives don't deserve residuals for the work they create. "If I build a bathroom in a house, I don't-- get paid every time someone uses the toilet." TRUE! However, your bathroom build has a set market value. Art does not. No one knows what makes one TV show an overnight success, and another a flop. No one knows what makes one song a hit, and the other a dud. If they did, trust--

One weird, silver lining positive from the WGA's strike has been a sense of calm over a reality that has plagued me with anxiety for years -- the fact that despite having a great agent, manager, and lawyer, despite having been in hundreds of rooms with top execs and-- producers, despite having pitched countless networks, and despite having sold multiple pilots and pitches, I still work in food and bev. For so long, it felt like such an embarrassment in so many ways because it felt like I was the only one who was biding time in between--

So @NancyMace keeps harping on this whole "10,000 late term abortions a year" thing. She wrote it in her P&C op-ed, mentioned it today when I questioned her on abortion at her meet & greet. The reality? According to SCDHEC, in 2020, 5 abortions were performed in SC after the 21-- week mark. 4 for fetal anomalies, 1 for health of the mother. Exactly none, zero, nada, zip, were healthy pregnancies that women just randomly elected to abort. The way Nancy talks, you'd swear perfectly healthy women with perfectly healthy pregnancies were rolling into their--

We did have a conversation. This isn't about getting along. And yes, this is about rage.

As I said to you before, this isn't a debate about taxes or zoning. It's literally about women's bodies and healthcare. We aren't a political football. And the fact that you continuously, CONTINUOUSLY dismiss women as "uncivilized" and "immature" because we are raging mad and terrified that we're gonna be the ones to die because of your blatant stupidity shows you have learned nothing in all of this. Absolutely nothing. I--

Hey @NancyMace, read your op-ed in the P&C. First and foremost, as I've said before, I am so sorry you were raped at 16. Horrific, and I am so glad you have survived it. With that being said, here's what you seem not not get (or willfully ignore) about abortion. Rape is not the-- only traumatic even to have an effect on a pregnancy. Women have abortions for all different reasons, many of them having to do with trauma, and guess what? Just like you being raped is no one else's business than yours and who you chose to share it with, women shouldn't have--

You wanna know why food and bev people don't wanna go back to food and bev? Because while so many who have worked in the industry for years have the thick kind of skin it takes to survive and thrive, 2020 was a breaking point for a lot of people. Let me explain -- Food and bev people are used to being treated like shit. Doesn't make it okay, but we just are. They've always gotten yelled at and berated by customers, sexually harassed, mocked by customers, told to get "real jobs", had their intelligence questioned. But most of them--

Okay, which of my savvy, younger, Tok Tok generation followers wanna make a video of these lyrics set to "We Didn't Start the Fire"? I wrote it out, but I can't sing or make videos for shit. IT'S TOO GOOD THOUGH-- Sarah Sanders, Lindsey Graham, Steve Bannon, tiny hands
Shithole countries, Russian bounties, very fine people.
Amorosa, Scaramucci, Don Junior’s super douchey
Escalators, ventilators, Q anon sheeple.

I think this is what I find craziest. I'm at home, in PJs, enjoying my day off, making chicken, watching the Tiger documentary, and there are people out there like.. willingly planning to throw their lives away to go show up in DC with guns and ammo and vests, for what? For Donald Trump? Like, there are millions of people living normal (ish, considering the Pandemic) lives doing normal every day things, enjoying their lives or living their lives or figuring their lives out... and there's a whole group of people planning like, a government--

1/ Friendly rant re: masks. Look, you can argue about their effectiveness all you want. But if there's a chance it can help slow some shit down, is it really THAT inconvenient? I have been working in a new restaurant for a month. It's great! Great kitchen, staff, and money. 2/ We all wear masks now. We have six tables outside that normally are inside. We wear all black, it's BALLS hot in South Carolina right now, and we are constantly moving for 8 hours. I have asthma. I have had not one, NOT ONE problem with my mask, breathing, or "medical issues".

Another fun perspective -- you have to consent beforehand (usually on your license) to donate organs in the event you become brain dead. No one, not the state, not a hospital, not a child, can take/use part of your body -- even though it's dead -- without consent. If someone is brain dead and will never recover, you still cannot take any organ from their body without that consent, even if it has the ability to save the life of a dying child. One has to agree to allowing someone to harvest and use their body for anything, even in death.
