Been thinking ab the death of the old guard. No one takes seriously many of the elites that were considered a big deal just a few years ago.

The shift in evangelicalism has been seismic, starting with Trump, then MeToo, & finally MLK50

Has me asking myself a lot of questions. What makes one “relevant” or legitimately helpful to other Christians? How does one keep from being another voice that was once helpful and is now just plain laughable? And yes, I’m thinking of CT & TGC & quite a few others.

It seems to me the answer is actually obvious.

Most of us would agree that “mommy needs wine” culture is a problem. If being around your own children makes you want to drink, you’re likely the problem.

But why? Other than a superficial Sunday school answer, what is the problem? A lot of parents would say that kids are a blessing BUT they are difficult and can be annoying and stressful. So…are moms supposed to want to be annoyed and stressed? Of course not. Who wants to be constantly annoyed and stressed?

Many parents look at the difference between their most obedient children & most disobedient children and are tempted to wrongly believe that their obedient children are “weak” willed while their disobedient children are just “strong” willed. This is backwards. The ability to master your desires is a sign of strength. The inability to master your desires (or wills) is weakness. Mastery & self control are not signs of being weak willed but rather a will tempered by strength and self control.

I believe we do our weak willed children a

Last year I stopped believing in the diet myths commonly sold to women, lost 30lbs of fat, stopped having chronic headaches, felt better than I ever had in my entire adulthood, & accidentally got pregnant after back to back miscarriages.

The first thing I had to let go of was the myth that unbalanced hormones/unlucky genetics were largely to blame for my being overweight.

Fat loss is a matter of calories in, calories out. Hormones & genes are involved, yes, but your body is not a special butterfly that defies the laws of physics. Get over it.

Imagine a Christian friend confides in you that they they always want to murder. They just love the thought of murdering someone but they know if they did it, their church might cast them out.

Would you say to them, “It’s ok that you want that. I accept you as you are”? Or would you tell them, “That isn’t ok. We will get you help. We will not allow you to do that. You must set that sin aside and cease to desire it”?

All sinful desires, whether they are murderous or adulterous or perverted, are to be cast aside entirely & put to death. Yet for

The last 3 novels I’ve picked up—all bestsellers—had token gay characters or some LGBT side story line.

It’d be easy to pass this off as unremarkable given the utter saturation of all things sexually perverse in our culture, & I get that impulse.

But have we really considered that just t e n years ago, this was not the case? That the world our children are growing up in is radically different than what we knew? The ramifications here are enormous.

I’m 32, & when I graduated from HS, zero of my peers claimed to be LGBT. Now, somewhere around 40%
