Several years ago I read about the trend of people only posting their most polished selves on social media & how it's making everyone feel like we don't measure up to those around us.
So I made an effort to be more 'real' on FaceBook.

It's been an unmitigated disaster.
🧵⬇️ /1 Note- I stick to tech/hobbies on Twitter so this is about my posts to friends & family.

I started an informal effort to talk (on FB) about life's ups & downs. About current events. About subjects that matter to me, not necessarily to my FB friends. About struggles.

In my 40+ years I've learned a few ways to hack my physical & mental state.

Here are some goodies:
👇 Use light to sway your wakefulness - keep the lights bright if you want to stay awake or dim if you want to head toward sleepiness. Smart bulbs are cool for running automatic routines.

Coming to this discussion late, heard about it on @phpugly.

This opinion is ignoring that time to maintain & upgrade projects is more often than not, at a premium.

As a freelancer I have ~30 projects to upgrade each time PHP drops an LTS. I have minimal time for this. When I worked for a large software company, getting time for tech debt like this was even harder.

I appreciate what @brendt_gd is saying- the picture he paints is 100% the ideal: stay up to date & adopt new versions early is the dream.

Sadly not the reality of most devs.

I have a #PHP joke, but I can't remember if the punchline is the first or second argument. I have a #PHP joke, but the headers have already been sent.
