The Territorial Defence Forces were formed after the reorganization of the Territorial Defence Battalions, volunteer militias created during the war in Donbas, 2014, under the command of the Ministry of Defence. 2/6 Territorial Defence units existed from 2015 until 2021 in semi-organized forms until 2022 when they were formally organized as the Territorial Defence Forces.

1/7 The Territorial Defense Forces is the youngest and one of the largest branches of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It consists of highly motivated and dedicated Ukrainian citizens who volunteered to serve their country. 2/7 The TDF was originally designed to be light infantry units - able to quickly respond to threats in their local area. We're deployed throughout Ukraine, both on the front lines in active combat operations (East and South) and in locations of potential threat (Belarus border)
