i didn't have an issue with the skeleton combiner system for Superion and Menasor because those designs aren't affected by it. they're all same-ish planes and cars. If you swapped out Slingshot for Air Raid on the combiner it's like who cares he still looks the same.

whereas for the Combaticon designs it's different- when you swap the limbs around it actually does affect the way the combiner looks. So in the case of this design i would argue that losing the Scramble City play pattern is a loss.
