Part 5 in my series: Military Terms for Dummies- AWACS or also known as Airborne Warning and Control System. The aircraft is able to detect, track, identify and report potentially hostile aircraft operating at low altitudes, as well as provide fighter control of allied aircraft. These planes are basically the ears and eyes in the sky and project strength in the battle space through communication. They are integrated with ground radar and allied planes. They fly as close as possible to the battle space to provide the best support.
