@sewellchan@latimesopinion There's a convention in the news media according to which white people (and only white people) are entitled to empathy no matter what they do. Thus is a white murderer described as an "honor student" while Trayvon Martin, as you may recall, "was no angel".
1/@sewellchan@latimesopinion To hand over the whole letters section to Trump voters without doing the same for Trump's victims is to say that they former deserve empathy while the latter do not. That's the message you send with this well-intentioned, thoroughly wrongheaded move.
