Hey everyone, I wanted to talk about this Eric Metaxas tweet from yesterday, because there's a lot to unpack.

🧵 Image If you aren't already familiar with Metaxas, he wrote a biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer that's extremely popular with evangelicals, mostly because it used Bonhoeffer's life and message to reinforce everything evangelicals already believed politically about issues like abortion. Image

Hey everyone, Kathryn here from @KEBrightbill. I'm super excited to curate the account this week!

To start off, I'll tell you a little about myself. I was homeschooled in the evangelical homeschool world and spent my teen years in the '90s in religious right activism. One of my areas of expertise is on the religious right and evangelical homeschooling, and the way that the religious right engaged in a concerted effort to raise the foot soldiers of a theocratic takeover of American government, so I'll be spending time on that this week.

🎆It's time to learn about asexuality! 🎆

For my first day as curator, I'm going to create an Asexuality 101 thread covering some of the basics for those who don't know much about it. I'll make a similar thread about aromanticism tomorrow.

First off, what is asexuality? An asexual (ace for short) is someone who experiences little to no sexual attraction. We rarely, if ever, see someone and feel sexually attracted to them/desire to have sex with them. It’s something inherent to us—you cannot choose to be asexual.

So I'm going to finish the russian thread tomorrow, but I'm going to tell everyone here a story about me struggling this year - because what's more appropriate for a 22 year old than to air her feelings to almost 4000 strangers I have been playing rugby in some form since I was 14/15 (I forget what term we started in). Before rugby I was always into individual sports - I swam butterfly and the IM for a swim team, I also did ballet from 5-18. Rugby was the first ever sport I was a natural in

Okay, so contrary to popular knowledge, the Russian LGBTQ community has a long and rich history and culture. I'm not a massive authority, but I am a Russianist (writing about Russian colonialism in Siberia) who wants to specialise in queer history for her MPhil The Russian Orthodox Church used to be surprisingly ambivalent about homosexuality and gender non conformity. In fact, our earliest documented bans come from the SEVENTEENTH CENTURY. Some have theorised that this is due to Russia becoming more "European" under Peter the Great
