At the Alabama State House today for the Prison Oversight Committee. The movie #TheAlabamaSolution on HBO shone a light on the continuing failure of Alabama's prison system. They had to move the meeting into a bigger room to accommodate all the interested parties. 🧵 First speaker is a pastor doing prison ministry. He's telling stories of rape, of men being bullied out of their bunks & forced to sleep on the floor. He is asking for safety, for consistency in their daily schedule, for ministries to be able to access the men to help.

I'm at the Jefferson County Democratic Convention where Democratic nominees are being selected. Why aren't they being elected in a primary, you ask? 🧵 Image To get on the ballot (as a major party nominee), a candidate must a) submit forms to the party, b) pay a qualifying fee, c) submit forms to the Secretary of State. The deadline for qualifying is 116 days before the primary. (Which was Nov 10, 2023)

google.com/maps/d/u/0/vie… All three maps keep Montgomery wholly in District 2 and remove Autauga and Elmore from District 2 (adding them to D6). All three move Macon & Russell counties (including the city of Tuskegee) from D3 into D2. (Below is Map 2)
