So, while twitter still exists, and we have the ability to share those One Simple Tricks! So Doctors Hate Us! …

I am going to share an actually simple thing that has helped my headaches. Despite its simplicity, the thread might get long because it comes with caveats. Here is the tl;dr.

The simplest thing that relieves my bad headaches/migraines is pain relievers. Let’s start with that.

But in addition, there’s a very simple self massage technique I read about that also helps a LOT. It is basically this:

Overheard: Mr Dare to oldest Dareling, who keeps refusing driving lessons. “You know what we did when I was a kid, that made us to learn to drive? We stole!” Mr. Dare’s out here trying to sound badass. 😂

I saw that NY Post article about how “hard” it is to be a Christian in America right now (apparently evidenced by, of all things, the article writer experiencing twitter blowback when she complained about a comic book character being bisexual) and… 🧵 Briefly setting aside her claim that “freedom of religion” equals “freedom to be homophobic on social media w/o consequence” is the most ridiculous civil liberty interpretation I’ve heard since…
Since Mortons deemed a steak dinner an inalienable right. So like, 2 days. Anyway.

I am all for pushing back on fetal personhood, but it’s too easy for the DOT or legislature or whoever to just change the definition and say HOV lanes require two or more persons occupying two or more separate seats. Save the pushback for something with no easy out. However, I am in favor of the occasional HOV pass for a pregnant woman who just REALLY REALLY needs to pee.

Long before Roe was overturned, Republicans in state legislatures spent decades parsing and passing every tiny law and regulation to chip away at abortion access. Sure, we need more sweeping action, but Biden’s executive order at least starts chipping back from the Federal side. State legislatures were using every tiny loophole to pass the pettiest, pickiest laws that made abortion access more difficult. Stuff like “abortion services can’t be provided in buildings without 6-ft wide corridors because SAFETY.” Those tiny measures had big consequences.

All the “upscale” steakhouse chains blur together in my mind. I could not have told you anything special about Morton’s a hour ago, and now I will always associate Morton’s brand with scolding pro-choice protesters for interrupting dinner. And that’s not, like, a “ooooh I’m boycotting you, Morton’s” thing, I’m just saying - whenever I see a Morton’s I’m going to think about Kavanaugh sneaking out the back door and corporate PR snarling “how DARE you take away a good man’s steak” … and then laugh and not eat there.

Romance writers and readers organized to raise ~$450,000 to help Dems win the GA runoffs and take control of the senate. Many in the community phonebanked, text banked, made postcards, registered voters. Do not come in my mentions to call us we’re defeatist istg *typo sorry

but anyway if someone says “fight harder” on what planet does that mean “defeatist” wtf. If you didn’t notice, we were actually DEFEATED just the other day. Are we supposed to say, “You tried your best!”

If everything was reversed right now, you KNOW trump would be expanding the court and McConnell would ram through four confirmation hearings in six weeks and strongarm every R into approving them.

Dems need to stop playing flag football while the other team is playing tackle. We just keep losing ground and losing civil RIGHTS and it’s because our leading Dems want to believe they are better legislators bc they hold themselves to a higher standard.

I want a higher standard of civil rights. Get in the fray. @POTUS @SenSchumer

Is anyone organizing an author effort/pledge/whatnot to decline invites to events in states w/o legal abortion? Economic pressure is really the only thing some ppl listen to, and if big events like cons change locations bc no featured guests will come… it’s something, at least? I guess it would have to involve a lot of high-profile authors and large organizations in all genres to make a real effect.

Decided I’d try to calm down by practicing piano. I’m learning a very simplified piano-only version of Massenet’s “Meditation” from _Thaïs_. It’s so lovely and haunting. Then I decided to look up the opera, bc I didn’t know anything about it. 🧵 So apparently this opera is all about this monk who sees a beautiful courtesan and decides it’s his God-given mission to show her the sinful nature of the flesh and convert her to become a nun. You know, some good ol’ fashioned slut-shaming.

I see a lot of posts angry at Bernie-supporters who refused to vote for Hillary, and prominent Bernie supporters, mostly woman and people of color, who told others not to vote for Hillary. I rarely see anyone actually blaming Bernie. I am angry at Bernie. Mittens and all. It was his campaign. He didn’t exactly do much to counteract that message. I’m also mad at Putin’s Russia, because they were in that campaign spreading misinformation just as they were in Trump’s. Liberals don’t like to admit being gulled by it, that’s all. (I’m a liberal)

Sitting in the dentist’s waiting room and they have a show on the tv where a woman in medieval costume just looked at a dude with long hair and eyeliner and said “fuck me.”

No one else is here. Woah, now he’s beating her with a shovel and saying something about sucking him off. Things are ESCALATING.

Nazi “heroes” in romance plots are always described as the “good ones” who morally opposed the war and were conscripted against their will.

I’m not a historian, but even if there were real people who fit that description, I suspect the fictional “good ones” now outnumber them. It’s amazing how those “good ones” are always showing up in books and movies, and how they are always so irresistibly attractive compared to other men around. They *must* be a “good one”, because they have sex with a woman who’s the “enemy”!

So I’ve been volunteering at a new food bank that’s on a college campus, and it stocks period products and condoms along with the food. The guy who manages it is this very sweet man in his mid 20s, I think. He asked me to label the shelves 1/ With the “hygiene items”, and I was kind of nudging him to actually say what they are, because a) we are adults, and b) “hygiene items” sounds silly c) gentle teasing.

The house down the street went up for sale last Thursday, open house Sat, “in escrow” sign is up this morning. They sold it strictly as-is, hasn’t been renovated since it was built in 60s. Probably went for over asking (which was a touch on the low side, bc of the as-is sale.) Knowing we could put up a sign and run away to the woods within a week is soooo wild.

But spiders. Yeah, I’ll tell myself it’s the spiders that keep me from doing it.

I have SO many flaws, friends. I will not have time in this life to get around to all of them. I’ve got to prioritize, and I can’t lie—overreaction to beloved TV character comparisons is probably not gonna get addressed. If you are disappointed in me, I am genuinely sorry. No, I mean that. I hate disappointing people. But in this case, it’s probably for the best we just get it out there.
