A mega-thread on sexual identity language, flawed thinking from many well-meaning conservative and moderate Christian straight folks, and surprising agreements I share with some far-right critics: One of the most significant ideas impressed upon me during my years at a Reformed seminary was the importance of locating ourselves within a story (this is one of the reasons I eventually became a Catholic, but that is for another thread).

Hello, everyone, some thoughts on the current Side B discourse:

1) The only things that have ever united all Side B folks are: I) being a follower of Christ and II) a particular stance on same-sex sex. No one fights with Side B folks like…Side B folks. 2) I know why people on many sides disagree with the Side B perspective, and I have carefully considered the arguments. Most of us Side B folks have; we simply remain convinced, for various reasons (and oftentimes we wish we were not!).

A friend recently told me that when I spoke about “Queer treasure” in a breakout session at the first @revoiceus conference, his initial thought was, “this guy sounds like he went to @CovSeminary, because this is the approach to culture and missiology I remember learning there.” When I decided years after the first conference to continue my education at @CovSeminary, I remember taking several classes and thinking to myself, “the content I am learning here would be great to add to my breakout session, because it so clearly lends support to my ideas.”

the spirit of homophobia is a power, a principality, a force of spiritual darkness that we as followers of Christ are called to battle against I keep looking for something to make sense of it all, but nothing makes sense of it except the recognition that it is a demonic stronghold

Reading @timkellernyc's Center Church was a large reason why I began to think of the LGBTQ+ community as a distinct cultural group--which is the foundation of much of my work (especially at the first two @revoiceus conferences) and a significant theme of my life. His discussion of contextualization and missiology is, perhaps surprisingly, one of the biggest reasons why I call myself gay, why I began to consider my sexuality to be an aspect of my identity, why I feel such a strong connection to LGBTQ+ people, culture, and history.
