Last thread, we began our fact-check investigation into Hitler's claim that his generals were liars, contemptible, disloyal cowards, traitors and failures, and the scum of the German people.
We can be certain that they lied to him before the war.
We know:
- General Kleist-Schmenzin gave the Case White plans to the UK
- General Oster gave German invasion plans to the Danes, Belgians, and the Dutch, the latter of whom didn't believe him.
But what did these based aristocrats do with the Soviets?
In Downfall's most famous scene, Hitler blames his generals for Germany's defeat.
We're meant to scoff. He gave an impossible order to a nonexistent detachment, then ranted about disobedience.
But was he right? Were his generals the scum of the German People?
A thread. 🧵
We all know that Hitler's ideological fixations had led him to constantly interfere with the sober, rational gentlemen of the OKW, causing them to lose the war.
We know this, because we were told this by the surviving members of the OKW.
