This is one of the most beautiful, and theologically PACKED passages in the Bible.
"ἐν ἀρχῇ" - "In the beginning".
This not only sets the opening scene of the Gospel of John, but deliberately recalls & connects to Genesis 1:1, "In the beginning, God..."
"ἦν" - "was"
This verb is in the past continual-action tense, meaning "had been" or "already was".

The amount of misinformation and Conspiracy Theories surrounding the Canonization of the Bible is astounding.
So I thought I would dispel some common myths and then give the REAL History of how the Bible came to be in the form we have it today.
1. The decision as to what books would be included in the Bible WASN'T made by any single person or group. No single pope, bishop, Emperor, or Church Council decided what books to include in the Bible.

It just astounds me the confidence with which ignorant people display, announce, and glory in their ignorance.
Having NO actual knowledge of, much less expertise in a subject, they feel absolutely comfortable dogmatically pontificating on subjects THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT!
I mean...where do they GET all this unearned confidence?
How do they sit there with a straight face and with NO hesitation spout untruths that ANYONE could tell is untrue with a 5 second Google search?
Shamelessly, they parade their ignorance & misinformation for all to see.

The Pretrib Rapture belief is something that creates obsession, paranoia & fear.
It is also a very RECENT phenomenon. It did not EXIST in Christian beliefs until the 1830s when John Nelson Darby first developed the scheme.
It is a MINORITY view in Christianity.
I grew up with this teaching. I spent over a decade believing in it, studying it, obsessing over it.
I read books, listened to tape series (this was in the 80s), watched videos, went to seminars, heard preaching on it, etc. We spent countless hours figuring out the signs.

I had a disturbing conversation on Twitter yesterday that is very revealing about the divisions in our country. Someone with whom I had previously had NO disagreements (we followed each other) suddenly started calling me out for "SIN" because I don't support Medicare For All.
She was quite emphatic about the fact that a Christian CANNOT have any other view except to embrace Single Payer Healthcare. To reject M4A is to be "unchristian", a "Christofascist", and "in sin".
Now, understand, I have always been vocal about the need to care for the poor and

Just a reminder:
The narrative that Bill Clinton was impeached for getting a BJ in the Oval office is a FALSE narrative, and people need to understand what it was REALLY about.
Bill Clinton was Impeached for LYING UNDER OATH to a Federal Grand Jury in a Sexual Harassment
Lawsuit in which he was accused of EXPOSING HIMSELF to Paula Jones against her will. He was found guilty of Contempt of Court, and lost his Law License. Has he not been President of the United States, he would likely have gone to PRISON for perjury, which is a Federal Felony.
