The Labour government wants to spend £22 billion (the same amount as it’s so-called ‘black hole’ in the public finances this year and consequent spending cuts) contributing to fossil capital’s ‘carbon capture and storage’ con. As a group of 23 scientists explained in an open letter, ‘this policy would lock the UK into using fossil fuel based energy generation to well past 2050’ and ‘Carbon capture projects have a consistent track record of over-promising and under-delivering.’
