Excerpts to follow in thread "Humans live within their ideas. If they like the idea, they just carry on doing what they are doing. If they don't like the idea, then they say there is something wrong with themselves. But really it is just a problem with the idea."

@raidevon @KnowledgeBottle I think the main variables here are fear, especially in relation to identity.

The more identity is a function of “cherished” ideas, the more fear there is of those beliefs being at risk.

The only real threat to cherished beliefs and ideas are “better” ideas and beliefs. @raidevon @KnowledgeBottle The mistake is to identify so strongly with such beliefs and ideas that it becomes fearful to even consider other ideas because to do so feels as though one’s actual self is put at risk.

Reading is as much of an art as writing.

Too many writers pander to readers, making it simple and easy.

It’s good in moderation but a fallacy in the extreme, grafted from the petty business motto: the customer is always right.

Incorrect: some readers fail their task. Good writing urges the reader to level up their game as a reader.

Some very good writing is obnoxious, but such noxious effect is agathokakological, like hormesis, it’s uncomfortable, but forces you to do some work. To crack a dictionary at the very least, and at most to think.

@raidevon 1. Looking back at your words and actions as foolish is good and healthy. Being convinced that anything you WILL say or do is foolish is not good, as you become paralyzed. Speak and take action despite that you might think it foolish after. @raidevon 2. Have a very low tolerance for dishonesty. For yourself and others. This is a master variable of life. And it’s under appreciated. (But no need to be psycho about it. Harmless embellishment of a story for entertainment only is just good talking)
