Joseph Collins, an Alsip man with clear ties to the Proud Boys, was charged with a hate crime after allegedly vandalizing UpRising Bakery and Cafe in Lake in the Hills earlier this month.

Both men were present for the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, which has led to federal charges against dozens of Proud Boys.

Protesters and community members confronted Kenosha cops searching a van near 63rd St. and 20th Ave. Cops ultimately left after taking one man into custody. I’m in Pilsen, where CPS students are planning a dance party protest in front of the home of a school board member they say hasn’t committed to voting cops out of schools. A DJ is getting set up and snacks have been laid out. Activists nearby are hanging in the grass, dancing and handing out water and coffee. Friendly reminder that CPD has used facial recognition technology for years, though the department dumped one controversial company that’s been sued by the ACLU. That firm, Clearview AI, uses tech that compares images with billions of photos from the web.

Last night, as the dust began to settle in Englewood after the shooting and subsequent standoff, I spoke to Earl Allen, who said his brother was the young man who had been shot by police.

A news conference is about to start across the street from the funeral home in Gresham where 15 were shot on Tuesday. Activists are calling on officials “to end the neglect of Black communities.” Image Activists demanded a range of things during the presser, from a seat at the table in CPS’ reopening discussions to the FCC regulating content on Chicago’s rap radio stations to officials coming together to address violence and the lack of resources in Black neighborhoods.

Should be pointed out that the FOP head is pictured here chatting with Brien James, a known white supremacist who co-founded the Vinlanders Social Club, which the Anti-Defamation League calls "a hardcore racist skinhead gang that has had a high association with violence." The groups' members have been responsible for at least nine murders, according to the ADL. James is now affiliated with the American Guard and the Proud Boys of Indiana. I’m at CPD HQ where Supt. Brown will he briefing the media after another devastating weekend of violence that left 65 shot, 18 of them fatally. The victims included four children, including three aged 1 to 17 who were killed.
