New Englanders: your utility bills are going to be really high this winter. About twice what they were last winter for electricity, natural gas, and heating oil.

There are things you can do to prepare now. A 🧵 First, the why: Russia. Russia's war with Ukraine, and subsequent @GazpromEN reductions in natural gas exports to Europe, have resulted in higher prices in Japan and the Americas, as natural gas is traded across the Globe.

Last week the House and Senate passed a reconciled offshore wind and climate bill. I haven't tweeted much about it, in part because we're so busy and it's so big.

I want to begin with where we are now -- with the bill on @MassGovernor's desk.

Governor: please sign the bill. It's a great bill; I hope Governor Baker signs it. We in the legislature aren't counting on it, which is why we moved very quickly when it came out of conference committee to pass it on the 21, so we can override the Gov's veto before the end of session.

OK, here’s my Earth Day edu-rant. I’ve been stewing on it all day. It’s going to focus on climate change, which is a part of Earth Day concerns, along with ecology, sensing and enjoying nature, and a bunch of other stuff I suppose.
