Why is nobody talking about the fact that Democrats still have another shot at reconciliation after the bill they've been negotiating with Manchin? They've done FY 2021 (ARP) and have until September 30th to do FY 2022, but they still haven't used FY2023 (which begins Oct 1st). This reminds me of the filibuster fight where nobody seemed to want to talk about the fact that they could bring back the talking filibuster without a rule change and pass the Freedom to Vote Act.

People seem to think that @RepLizCheney was always against Trump. She wasn't. It was only after 1/6 that she realized what a threat he was to democracy.

Here she is back in 2019 calling the first impeachment a "sham"

@RepLizCheney And here's a letter she sent to @SpeakerPelosi complaining that the impeachment inquiry was happening in "secret" and demanding the transcripts get released "immediately"

Biden's approval is at 39% but Democrats have about 43% on the generic ballot. At this time in 2010 Democrats were also at 43% on the generic ballot but Obama's approval was at 47%. Image What does this mean? Well it can be interpreted a number of ways. July is really where the bottom fell out for Democrats back in 2010 but voters are far more polarized today and there's reason to believe Biden's approval rating is bottoming out (Trump's bottomed out around 39%).

The question isn't CAN the Justice Department prosecute Trump, it's SHOULD they? I won't pretend that's an easy question to answer. As the piece says, Merrick Garland has no good options, only bad ones.
lawfareblog.com/cassidy-hutchi… But there are outcomes other than jail time that a prosecution might serve. A formal charge of insurrection would make it easier to bar him from ever holding office again under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.

The 14th Amendment, the 15th Amendment, the Enforcement Acts, the Klu Klux Klan Act, and the Civil Rights Act of 1875 all passed without a single Democratic vote. Sometimes doing the right thing is more important than being bipartisan. Does anyone really think we shouldn't have given former slaves full citizenship and the right to vote, and protected them from being terrorized in the south because it wasn't bipartisan?

The Biden Theory of the Case

A thread ⬇️ wonknessblog.wordpress.com/2022/01/02/the… It's easy to get lost in the minutia of day to day politics but I really think people are missing the forest for the trees. In the grand scheme of things Biden's little spat with Manchin and Build Back Better (cnn.com/2021/12/19/pol…) isn't really going to matter.
