Wait until you find out that "lascar" is a 🇫🇷 slang word which roughly translates as a low-life, rascal, cunning but unprincipled man, derived from the term used for Indian mercenaries enrolled in European navies (hence the connection with Persian, possibly via 🇵🇹 'lascarim') 1/ Image It does not stop here though. In recent years, 'lascar' has been adopted and popularized in the slang of 🇫🇷 banlieues and Hip-Hop culture and has taken the broader meaning of 'hoodlum'. As such it is frequently used in Rap songs. ⤵️

@kenancruz Prior to Dilaçar, another Armenian should be remembered as a pioneer of Turkish studies: Bedros Keresteciyan (1840-1909), a polyglot who worked as head of Translations for the Ottoman Finance Ministry, wrote the first etymological dictionary of Turkish. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedros_Ke… @kenancruz Here's a link to a pdf version of the 1971 reprint of "Matériaux pour un dictionnaire étymologique de la langue turque" (yes it was written in French, one of the many languages mastered by Bedros Efendi, who had studied in Paris) libgen.unblockall.org/book/index.php…

Following my previous thread on Burkina Faso, I figured it would be interesting to continue investigating the darker side of Turkish businesses operating in Africa. Guess what, I found some pretty nasty stuff about Albayrak Holding's activities in Guinea [sorry it's long] ⬇️⬇️⬇️ Perhaps best-known for owning pro-AKP newspaper Yeni Şafak, Albayrak Grubu was originally founded as a construction company in Trabzon in 1952 before expanding to various industries and services such as textile, sugar, waste management, publishing, etc. albayrak.com.tr/en/sectors-and…
