a single male friend of mine asked me to show him a picture of a female friend of mine i’d mentioned in passing, the implication being he wanted to judge whether she was hot enough for him to pursue. he knows nothing about her except for the fact that she is a woman. i said no. he got annoyed. a week later, he complained half-jokingly that im inhibiting his ability to date bc i wouldn’t show him a photo of my friend, whose name & other basic details he does not know.

i tried to explain why this is fucking weird. he immediately threw up his hands at me,

i want 2 give a tour of my workplace on July 15 to any girls or women who are in tech &/or interested in getting into tech & want to see what it’s like to work at an aerospace company. this is in the Seattle area & anyone attending must be a U.S. citizen. group size will have to be limited. if u have a daughter, friend, niece, coworker, etc who would like to attend, pls DM or email me 🤗

i asked chatGPT to explain a few concepts to me directly out of the 802.3 standard & it 100% lied, completely confidently—only backtracking when i called it out on the lie.

both versions 3 & 4 did this. it has no fact checking. pls stop using it to just google things i’ve asked questions meant for network engineers on this platform a number of times recently & gotten *many* responses akin to “i dont know but this is what chatGPT told me when i fed your question to it”. STOP. there is a reason i ask on social media instead of using AI myself.

i’ve spent lots of time thinking about this lately. here are a few major things i wish i had known to prepare for before hitting a high number of followers on social media (🧵): 1) people will frequently forget or stop caring that you’re a human being & treat u accordingly. of all the issues u will face, u must steel yrself against this one, first & foremost, or it will destroy your mental health.

don’t give people with promises like this your money. at best, you’d memorize the material, spit it out for the test, & forget about it. It wouldn’t help u land or keep a job. these numbers are not realistic for ppl who are new to the industry AT ALL. what i personally learned from building a functioning lab setup out of the wreckage of someone else's hellish dumpster fire, alone: 🧵 1) before u start, meet with the previous person & ask them wtf they were thinking. if, as in my situation, u can't do that - document everything about the current setup that you can, even if it's truly a dumpster fire, bc there was likely some kind of method to the madness
