I just got to spend half an hour stuck in a @wmata @Metrorailinfo tunnel.

Train 113 left Farragut North headed toward Dupont at 2:36. We got about 6 cars off the platform and stopped. The operator said there was a red signal ahead.

After 4 mins, we moved up half a train length. Then we stopped again. There was a red signal ahead, the operator said.

Then after about 2 minutes, he announced he was leaving the train because "there is a problem with the railroad".

That was the last announcement.

Have you ever wondered why your city or county doesn't use more bike signals?

It's probably not simply because they don't want to, but is rather the result of federal policymaking.

In the United States, local and state governments are required to comply with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD or "The Manual").

This is why a red light means stop in all 50 states and yellow diamonds mean warning signs in all 50 states.
