Telling people brand new to low carb/keto that they can’t use any artificial sweeteners is like giving abstinence-only education to teens. Some ppl can adhere; for others it’s a disaster. Let’s educate ppl so they can make safer choices. 1/ For some people, 100% abstinence from all sweet-tasting things is the only way to break the addiction. But some people can’t “get there” immediately and they should know they CAN get good results switching to diet soda, sucralose etc. 2/

Am I the only one driven absolutely crazy by this shite? FFS. Chicken bone broth oil? (Chocolate flavored! 😂) I guess if you put MCT oil in something, it’s automatically keto and people will throw their money at you.
I’m in the wrong business. SMH. And this.
What, pray tell, is a “ketone activator?” The long pepper fruit extract, perhaps? 🤔🤷🏻‍♀️
I can’t even begin to imagine how much money Dr. you-know-who is making off of this.

Making my way (ridiculously slowly) through the book from @tednaiman & @WilliamShewfelt. I agree with others that it is a MASSIVE HOME RUN. Learning some stuff that's new and reinforcing a lot of what I already knew. Dynamite images. Clear & concise.
thepediet.com @tednaiman @WilliamShewfelt However, I stand by what I said when I first started reading it - I don't think it's great for total newbies. Some of it is, yes, definitely. But some of it's a little advanced, even though I know they did their best to, as Ted would say, "dumb it down as much as possible." ;-)

Reminder for those new to low-carb/keto: just because something says grain free doesn’t mean it’s low in carbs. Check this out: 12g per 1 ounce serving; bag is 4 servings, so 48g total, b/c who the heck is going to stop at 28 lousy grams of food?
NEVER ASSUME. ALWAYS READ LABELS. And yes, of course, bananas on the picture and as the first ingredient is the immediate giveaway anyway, but honestly, a lot of folks out there would still see the "grain free" part and not do any more sleuthing.

Do beta cells ever really, truly “burn out” and stop working? Do the lungs stop working from breathing too much? Does the heart stop from beating too much? Does the exocrine part of the pancreas stop secreting digestive enzymes from overuse? For B-cells, is it more lipotoxicity? Do they produce too little insulin because they are no longer *capable* of producing it, or has triglyceride infiltrated to the point that the fat buildup interferes with the proper secretion that would otherwise occur?

1/ Been listening to some podcasts lately and seeing things on Twitter WRT macros, protein-to-energy ratio, eating fat first before anything else, etc. And everyone insists they’re right. That they have *THE* answer—for themselves and everyone else. 2/ Can we stop doing this, please? This “my way or the highway” stuff. Why is it shocking that someone in an entirely different metabolic/medical situation from you does best on a diet that’s different from yours?

THREAD: A follow-up to yesterday’s thread on Alzheimer’s disease

1/13 I think some people misunderstood or misinterpreted what I wrote. 2/13 I heard from a few people who told me that there are many different causes of dementia. I suspect they were saying this because they have or had a loved one afflicted with this terrible illness, and they felt a little bit defensive.

1/ All right, y'all, so I just watched this video from Stephen Cunnane. His research on Alzheimer's, ketones, & brain glucose metabolism is SUPERB. Out-freaking-standing. I cite several of his (and his colleagues') papers in my book. HT to @KetoCarnivore
2/ After watching this, I am even more appalled than usual that most mainstream articles about Alz make zero--ZERO--mention of the fundamental underlying problem: that the brain is unable to effectively metabolize glucose. And this starts decades before clinical symptoms.

Hey guys! Just listened to an older ep of @breaknutrition podcast. THANK YOU for addressing how overly simplistic and flawed the CICO paradigm is, and that human metabolism and cellular energy utilization is about much more than deliberate exercise. 1/ 2/ I would love to hear your thoughts on how hypothyroidism affects brown adipose tissue, uncoupling, etc. As someone who's dealt with hypothyroidism, I was freezing cold to the point of distraction from anything else in a room where everyone else was fine.

1/ Regarding mTOR, protein, longevity, et al.
It's interesting to me that low carbers & keto people emphasize that breast milk is high in cholesterol & fat, and that babies are often in ketosis, and use this as evidence that keto is a default beneficial state b/c of this. 2/ But breast milk is also pretty high in sugar, but we don't hear many people saying that therefore, we should eat a lot of sugar as adults. Isn't it possible that "optimal" nutrition depends on the particular stage of the life cycle someone is in? Infancy versus twilight yrs?
