New: comment from @NYCMayor Adams on the subway killing of Jordan Neely: Image Adams:“Any loss of life is tragic. There’s a lot we don’t know about what happened here, so I’m going to refrain from commenting further. However, we do know that there were serious mental health issues in play here, which is why our administration has made record investments..."

noteworthy again the degree to which Hochul consistently conflates setting bail & pre-trial detention she wants more pre-trial detention & should just say/sell that; & there are ways in which the bail changes she just won allow it.

On @fox5ny, @NYCMayor Adams says "I have never in my professional career, have never witnessed crime at this level," which is a very strange thing to say for someone who came up in the NYPD in the '80s and '90s. It's also a very strange thing to say for a mayor of a city who is pitching workers on going back into offices, tourists to visit, businesses to open/expand, etc, & committed to traveling the country to make those pitches.

Inbox: Mayor Adams "will make a transportation-related announcement" on Wednesday morning two blocks from where I live. Given the location, Caton/Coney Island intersection, it would make sense if this was a street safety redesign announcement, but we shall see...

wow — Not sure if I’m more surprised de Blasio is not running for governor or that he admitted he probably shouldn’t have kept going to his Park Slope Y as mayor

NEW: Initial RCV run of in-person votes in the NYC Comptroller race shows a narrow Brad Lander lead over Corey Johnson:

Lander: 301,846 (51.7%)
Johnson: 281,867 (48.3%)

This RCV run does not include 120,000+ absentee ballots. When I interviewed Lander after primary day, I asked him about his confidence/concerns re absentee ballots & RCV given that his strongholds may be likely to have a lot of absentees but he was the furthest left candidate in the comptroller race - Listen: gothamgazette.com/city/10605-max…

Speaking of absentees & RCV, @KGforNYC is expressing a lot of confidence in a 'come from behind' stunner. Really pretty miffed we're doing this RCV run on Tuesday without 120,000+ votes factored into the initial first-place mayoral primary tally that, in reality, is needed in full before the RCV runoff No, it's not the end of the world, as long as political actors & members of the media handle it well, but it just seems like unnecessary risk to muddy the waters and confuse voters.

As @ericadamsfornyc gets endorsed by former Rep. Eliot Engel, @JamaalBowmanNY is speaking at a @mayawiley rally After @KirstenJohnFoy laced into Adams, Yang & Garcia over stances on policing; @JamaalBowmanNY warns against Adams & Yang, says Adams is backed by wealthy real estate developers & charter school backers who want him to do their bidding, but Wiley will uplift those left behind.

In apparent reference to @mayawiley at a rally related to fighting gun violence, @ericadamsfornyc says there are people running for mayor who don't have a "right now plan" on gun violence & just want to offer theoreticals - "we don't need a college professor, we need a professional who knows how to keep this city safe," Adams says, again in apparent reference to Wiley.

I see several arsonists would now like a word with the fire. Some are already trying to draw distinction between their support for Trump's attempt to overturn the election & the violence he incited. They are inextricably linked.
