Medicare is one of the country's most popular programs, covering 60+ million seniors' health care. It's also at risk.

To boost profits, private insurance companies are pushing Medicare Advantage — a threat to patient care, health equity, and our public health infrastructure.🧵 You may have seen the commercials: happy seniors living active golden years with doctors touting Advantage plans. It’s false advertising, and the corporations know it.

Medicare Advantage companies game the system to waste your money and lock seniors into substandard health care.

51 years ago, Roe v Wade was decided.

This is no celebratory anniversary. Today, 14 states have full ban abortion bans. 7 more impose restrictions that were unconstitutional under Roe.

Access to medication abortion is under threat. Women are being criminalized for miscarriages. In 2022 after the Supreme Court issued its Dobbs decision, the CPC issued a Reproductive Freedom Agenda for Congress and the Biden administration.

Progress has been made, but we have and will continue to fight for more.

NEWS: Today @CommerceGov rolled out the rules for how companies can apply to receive the funding Congress allocated in the CHIPS and Science Act.

We're proud to see it includes key progressive policies the CPC worked on with the Commerce Department this past summer. 🧵 Before the bill passed, the @RepJayapal and the CPC negotiated an agreement with Commerce:

The CHIPS and Science Act should focus on expanding domestic manufacturing capacity and investing in an equitable workforce, not on enriching wealthy corporate shareholders and executives.

Nearly half of private businesses force non-compete clauses on their employees, which keep wages low and the labor market rigged against workers.

The new rule @FTC proposed today to prohibit non-competes is a major pro-worker move.

Statement from CPC Chair @RepJayapal Screenshot of statement on a new rule proposed today from th If this rule is finalized, it would:

☑️Increase worker wages by nearly $300 billion across the economy, in both low-wage and high-wage industries

☑️Support new start-ups and small businesses

☑️Remove a key lever of power used to keep the labor market rigged against workers

NEW: 30 members of Congress are urging President Biden to pursue direct diplomacy for a negotiated settlement to end Russia’s war in Ukraine.

The letter recognizes the difficulties involved in engaging Russia given its illegal invasion — but make the case that now is the time 🧵 In recent weeks, the risk of nuclear war has increased, fighting escalated, and global economic insecurity deepened.

Thousands of people are dead and tens of millions more impacted. Skyrocketing prices in wheat, fertilizer, and fuel are driving global hunger and poverty.

We're thrilled to see this action to advance criminal and racial justice.

We applaud @POTUS using his executive authority to issue these pardons, and his platform to call on governors across the country to join him in this action. Our statement from CPC Chair @RepJayapal 🧵

The ongoing federal prohibition of marijuana is a vestige of the failed, racist War on Drugs that targeted and devastated Black and Brown communities.

BREAKING: The House just passed the Inflation Reduction Act.

After more than a year of negotiations and even longer campaigning on these issues, the Democratic majority is sending legislation to tackle climate action, tax fairness, and expand health care to the President’s desk. Today, Democrats are keeping promises to act on climate, drug costs, and are advancing key progressive priorities.

As in the Senate, not a single House Republican voted for this bill — despite its popularity with the majority of Americans across the political spectrum.

✅ Lower healthcare costs

✅ Begin to ensure that corporations pay their fair share

NEW: We're releasing a Progressive Caucus agenda for executive and legislative action to address the crisis of abortion access, reproductive freedom, and other rights threatened by the Supreme Court decision last month in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. 🧵 In the weeks since the ruling to end constitutional protections for abortion, Congress and the Biden admin have taken some essential steps.

The House just passed bills to enshrine the right to abortion in federal law, and protect the right to interstate travel for abortion care.

Progressives understand our mandate in this governing moment: Deliver for working people, and leave no one behind.

We've made important progress, but the work isn't done. Our communities need relief now.

That's why today we're releasing our executive action agenda for @POTUS. While Congress continues to work for a robust reconciliation package to deliver as much of @POTUS'
economic agenda as we can, we know that costs are only rising.

Working families want to see a government that delivers for them.

This agenda is designed to do exactly that.

Tonight, @POTUS put forward a record of accomplishment and a vision for the country we can all be proud of.

Through a global pandemic, economic recession, and rebuilding from Trump, the progress of this past year is extraordinary.

CPC reaction from our chair @RepJayapal 🧵 What does that progress look like?

➖ The American Rescue Plan led to the biggest yearly job growth in history, creating 6.4 million jobs
➖Wages are up and unemployment is at the lowest rate since 1969
➖The U.S. is the only advanced economy with its GDP at pre-pandemic levels.

Last week, the Biden admin announced it would break up and redistribute Afghanistan’s frozen Central Bank funds.

For months, progressives, the UN, and aid groups have urged @POTUS to release those funds to avert humanitarian disaster. This move only raises those concerns.🧵 Any functioning country must have access to its own currency and reserves.

By removing and breaking up Afghanistan’s already frozen funds, the U.S. continues to contribute to a crumbling economy — with devastating impact for the Afghan people.
