More breaking news from Michigan: After ordering the Reproductive Freedom For All measure on the ballot, the MI Supreme Court, in another 5-2 decision, just ordered the “Promote the Vote” measure on the ballot, too. 1/7
The proposal would enshrine several rights for voters in the MI Constitution, including rights to vote by absentee ballot, early in person, and with secure ballot drop-boxes. 2/7

Breaking news from Michigan: The MI Supreme Court in a 5-2 decision ordered the “Reproductive Freedom For All” measure to be placed on the ballot after the Board of State Canvassers deadlocked last week over alleged spacing issues in the text of the proposal. Thread below. 1/7
The proposed amendment would enshrine abortion access in the MI Constitution. Opponents had challenged it, arguing that the petition materials lacked proper word spacing. The Board had tied 2-2 on whether to place the proposal on the ballot. 2/7

This morning, in the first oral argument of its new term, the WI Supreme Court weighed how much leeway to give the legislature in presenting proposed constitutional amendments to voters. 1/6
The case involved Marsy’s Law, a victims’ rights amendment to the state constitution that voters approved in 2020. The plaintiffs contend that, as drafted, the ballot question failed to convey that the amendment could limit the rights of the accused. 2/6
