On September 1, @cupe2278 soft-launched a union drive for research assistants, academic assistants and other student workers who aren’t yet unionized.

We spoke to organizers and supporters of the drive, and those who have successfully organized similar campaigns elsewhere. 1/

CUPE 2278 President Phyllis Pearson said the campaign comes after years of complaints around pay inequity, bullying and harassment from supervisors and unrealistic work expectations. 2/

Good evening! We're covering tonight's #UBCSenate meeting, the last governance meeting of 2021!

We're here at #GSSCouncil, virtually! A few technical difficulties, but we came in as the VP UAA is amending the agenda. Susan Porter is presenting on the Graduate Life Centre.

She adds a quick note they managed to get the minimum PhD stipend from $18,000 to $22,000, but their hope is to get it to $26,000. But it might still have to pass through the full Senate.

#UBCBoG moves onto a presentation about Indigenous students at UBC. Andrew Parr: this presentation would answer what we're doing to break down the barriers for Indigenous students to access UBC. But also acknowledged ongoing challenges associated with things like housing, cultural change, etc.

#UBCBoG Verbal update on the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre.
