Dir. Takahisa Zeze about Tori Matsuzaka
- Fragments of the Last Will (日本映画 Navi)

Tori was in my film "Life Back Then (2011)". He was not yet as famous as he is today. He was a promising actor, so I cast him as a bully, the villain* role.

*Tori's first villain role. Image I believe Tori himself had doubts about the role so we worked together to create the role. For that reason, I feel a strong emotional attachment to him. Whenever we pass by each other at film festivals, he'd smile at me with a broad smile on his face. It makes me happy.

Tori Matsuzaka for With Online (Part 3, 29 Oct)

Tori: I think in communication, whether it is by letter, phone call, or in person, it's important to properly convey what's on our mind and carefully listen to what the other person wants to say.
withonline.jp/people/ent-enc… Image Tori: This may sound obvious, but I think it is important to do these obvious things repeatedly in order to communicate without misunderstanding.

Tori Matsuzaka for With Online (Part 2, 28-Oct)

Q: What is your "dream"?
Well, at the root of it, I want to live a stable life. Of course, I have goals at every point of life. For example, in my early 20s, I wanted to win Japan Academy Prize..etc.
withonline.jp/people/ent-enc… Image Tori: I do have a vision of the kind of work I want to do and the kind of person I want to be. But that is not the "final goal" for me, it's more like a process to reach the "stability" that I want to achieve in the end.

Tori Matsuzaka interview for Real Sound Movie Club

Of course there are things that can be done to improve performance, but in terms of expression without vocalization or speaking out the context, I think that the only way is to accumulate experience.
realsound.jp/movie/2022/10/… Image When I look at my seniors, beside great acting skills, they also have a certain air that comes from their years of experience. I believe that there's definitely more to it than just technique. I think it all depends on how many different things I can accumulate in the future. ImageImage

Mimi wo Sumaseba/ Whisper of the Heart - Prod. Asami Nishi about Tori Matsuzaka

I thought he's a really nice guy, and his softness and good-naturedness were just like Seiji's. There was a time in our previous film (Inemuri Iwane) when the cooperation on set was not going well> Image I was thinking what to do about it, but Matsuzaka-san noticed and organized a dinner party. He told me, "Why don't we do it? You can tell them it was organized by me." He is always looking at the people around him with a calm eye,

Tori Matsuzaka - Interview with Tiktoker Shinnosuke
Rurou no Tsuki

I believe that the ”truth" of Fumi is not only a story in this film, but also a sensitive story. So, I actually found people who have the same problems as Fumi during my role creation process.

cont. I tried to talk to them, but I couldn't meet them. It's a very sensitive matter, so it's difficult for them to meet me face to face and communicate with me, so I have to go through someone else to ask some questions to them.

cont.

#Nw The Northman Umm okay... but just okay. I think plot is too simple. Wanted more nordic mythology. Script and accents annoy me so much. Some characters talks with accent one line and without another line.

Suzu Hirose and Tori Matsuzaka for Oricon
- Rurou no Tsuki

Q; What is the most memorable scene for you?
oricon.co.jp/special/59036/ Suzu: I cried the most in the scene where Sarasa eats ice cream silently after telling Fumi why she doesn't want to go home. It wasn't about being nice or anything like that, it was about Fumi not rejecting her, not ignoring her, not approaching her, but just being there.

If I stick too much to my own image of Fumi, it'll be a biased version of him. I had a lot of discussions with Dir. Lee, did literature research and talked to various people. Then, made a conclusion who he would be like.

houyhnhnm.jp/feature/596404/ Q: I feel that a cautious and sincere attitude is important to understand and respect others.

Tori: Yes, it is. People are multifaceted beings, and it takes a lot of time and effort to properly understand their multifaceted aspects.

Interview Dir. Lee Sang-il

"The role, Fumi, played by Tori Matsuzaka, is a sensitive one but the immersion is unbelievable. I feel like I'm sucked into his eyes seeming to show the inside of his conflicted mind. I also feel that Suzu Hirose has become an adult woman." Lee: People are relieved when words such as "lover" and "friend" apply to the relationship, but the relationship between Fumi and Sarasa cannot be called love. There is no sex involved. It is neither parent-child affection nor friendship. It's rejection of the definition itself.

Just got back from Multiverse of Madness.... ummmm lots I want to complain lol

Doesnt work that well to me. 😅 This is the ranting thread. 🤣 I think Sam Raimi's biggest problem is he cannot handle many characters... Spiderman 3 suffered the same. And the Illuminati scene is so lame 😅 (I get that they don't have budget for good actors but this is embarassing)

For many people, the first time they get hooked on films is from the actors. As they follow the films of their favorites actors, become fans of the directors and screenwriters, or of the themes of the films, and become deep movie fans.

Fumi lives in the gap between the truth in his mind and one seen by others. To sound cool, losing weight was just a requirement. It was more difficult to chew something like an erupting magma inside, digest and put it out as an expression. Tori Matsuzaka for Eiga・com: I don't trust myself.

I don't trust my knowledge source, or rather, I don't trust myself. I don't have confidence that I can do it, but I also don't have confidence that I can't do it. I'll never know until I try.

They went "100% without storyboard" and conducted in-depth rehearsals. Hong said this was first attempt at deciding on what to film on the spot after watching rehearsals. Image Hong said this method allowed him to use his intuition and inspiration, and produced "miraculous moments". Said one is the opening scene: when Fumi and the young Sarasa meet in the rain. Tori Matsuzaka - Nikkei Trendy (2022/6)

Q: How do you feel about the significance of encountering such a troublesome role at this time in your early 30s? Tori: As we get older, there are fewer opportunities to go into a demanding environment where we are exposed to pressure and distress. I think we all want to go in and follow the success stories as examples. That way, we feel safer and have a better idea of what to expect.

Inagaki Goro said novel is more refreshing and movie is more intense. Well...let's see.

The novel doesn't contain a large part of the 15 years Fumi spent apart from Sarasa. But I couldn't complete the role unless I could fill in the blanks. There were so many things I had to accumulate in my mind. Image I had never played a role this demanding before, and I had never spent so much time worrying about it and searching so deeply into my mind.

1. He wrote a diary for the 15 years that Fumi spent apart from Sarasa. Tori: Loneliness is something that everyone carries throughout our life and cannot be shared with others. However, it is a part of who we are, and I don't think it is necessarily a negative thing. It is because of loneliness that we can feel the happiness of being with someone.
