This actually goes in line with a larger rant I find myself giving more and more frequently about American fans increasingly not thinking of anime as Foreign Media. This has a lot of really frustrating downstream effects.
Interpreting everything as if it is from an American perspective is one- why the hell are you assuming that a Japanese story with themes about the oppression of indigenous cultures, for ex., is about the American government oppressing Native Americans than, say, the Ainu people?

Idk how "removing specific cultural linguistic and historical references from a foreign work for greater palatability to the western market is fine and good" became the left-coded translation opinion
Frankly yall I'm not even totally down with title changes for different markets
You're talking about how a guy OBVIOUSLY should have been curious enough at some point in his life to look up The Odyssey after seeing it referenced, which I agree, but then you also tell me it's fine to remove a reference to the Shinsegumi because Americans don't know history?

Hate how much localization discourse I somewhat agree with is largely championed by absolute losers
Tonight it's "having translator's notes onscreen is fine actually and in many cases welcome, and I would generally rather have the intended wordplay explained to me than a new unrelated thing written as substitute"
