On August 6th 1980 four policemen killed in an ambush setup by naxals near Tripattur. The next day chief minister MGR lauched operation ajantha at the funeral of Inspector Palanisami one of the deceased.
Named Ajantha after Palanisami's daughter the operation carried out by then Vellore range DIG Devaram. Within two years the group responsible for the attack dismantled with most it's cadres killed or locked up.
