🧵 After 6 years of being molded in the depths of Counterparty, Pepes are coming to Ethereum.

A contingent of Rare Pepe artists & scientists, Fake Rare creators, and representatives of the frogs have been assembled to give rise to a new movement, spreading dank Pepes far and wide.

A couple of months ago I was granted what I view as the highest honor possible for a collector, artist, and student of CryptoArt history; when I was given the opportunity to curate a complete series of Fake Rares.

For months now OpenSea has been growing increasingly aggressive about removing items with any corporate references, quite often when the work is undoubtedly fair use.

It’s not unexpected to see traditional companies abuse copyright and trademark claims to silence artists but…

Currently wrapping my Penguins.

In the past 24 hours a wrapper contract/interface has been deployed, a Snapshot governance portal has been created, a new Discord set up, and Wrapped Penguins have been listed for sale on OpenSea with any royalties going to a community multi-sig. The tools are already in place to exit to community, you can buy a Wrapped Penguin right now and royalties will go entirely to a community controlled multisig. Any Penguin holder can create a proposal and vote. Your Penguin is your DAO membership, 1 Penguin = 1 vote.

What started as a protest has quickly become a community owned brand.

Since fractionalizing @clonex17707 two weeks ago, we have received 93 derivative artwork submissions, with voters approving 37 for mint thus far. Eight of these have been auctioned generating $240k, with half going to artists and the other half added as permanent liquidity on Uniswap.

On an annualized basis, the @clonex17707 community is already on pace to produce $10M worth of primary sales in year one.

Our thesis is simple, we believe the best way to gain exposure to the cultural paradigm shift being ushered in by NFTs is owning the top pieces from the most desired sets.
