How people with disabilities were treated in the USSR - a thread on ableism, abuse, stigma, isolation, and exploitation during the 'progressive' communism regime: During Soviet occupation, every citizen's social value was measured in their potential labor output.

Disabilities were classified by their degree of labor capacity; those who had some or moderate ability, had a duty to work. This duty would later become a compulsory measure.
