1/ Ukrainians were in the Russian army, by far the biggest amount, in the Polish army, in Allied armies, Germany's army & as an independent partisan force. Most of Ukrainians in RU and GER army were mostly mobilized. 1/ Lviv is one of the few Ukrainian cities really appreciating its history. On the streets of the city you can see monuments and signs everywhere to famous socialists and national heroes, as well as more controversial ones; monuments of lawyers, doctors and so on. 2/ The city values a lot their fight for indepdence and civil rights. 1/ 26 April 1939 famous Ukrainian socialist dissident Leonid Plyuach was born — a Ukrainian from Kirgiz SSR who always fought for national rights, independent UA and socialism. He was a mathematician, who saw all the absurdity of Soviet science and totalitarian oppression.
