I was in the back of a pearl white stretch limousine in a gown and a faux fur On my way to an industry soirée. My 2way pager 📟 started to go extinction level event crazy. Aaliyah BabyGirl Houghton’s plane crashed after Damon Dash forced her to rush her trip. Tears ruined my face I asked the limo driver to take me to Harlem I paged Niki to get dressed urgently she met me downstairs in a real fur and full glam. We went to the all night diner and had fries mozz sticks root beer floats onion rings burgers - veg 4 me - and cried in our floats. We barely ate.

At the studio/lab in Medina/Brooklyn I constantly played music. There was a used music shop down the road. Prior to moving to NY for work at Complex, I had come to visit to stay with my Play Brother JASE and his at the time lady. ... So when the job came up, and DOOM and GRIMM required for me to move to NY, all at once...I asked play bro bro and he said come live there and get a place in his building. I did and it became the studio, the office, the mixing/mastering lab, of course the kitchen/restaurant, etc.

In 1996 I moved to New York, Brooklyn to be exact, and I started a temp job at Gee Street Records.

Too Poetic, may he rest in peace/paradise, was alive then but had already been diagnosed with cancer of the brain.

RZA often stopped by the office... I was more impressed by Frukwan & DJ Prince Paul, being a huge Stetsasonic fan, myself. I often greeted them + the dozens of artists signed to Gee Street or with label deals under them, like Tragedy Khadafi's 25 II Life label. One day Prince Paul was in office so was Chubb Rock.

9/11 at @Complex I arrived early to our office space in the garment district near the Empire State. I put news on the computer as always and saw the footy of the first plane hitting the towers. Growing up everyone judged my one Auntie who was only married for a few, and who never remarried or had any babies. My mother & her oldest Sister talked bad on her name, I remember hearing it as a child. I love seeing all my Nieces thriving and shining. One of my eldest is a college grad now, working in film/tv even in "covid" I got to "see" 2 of my other nieces today on Zoom. Every year on this day I take a holiday for myself. You have no idea what Muslims have had to endure on this day. Or any Brown people period. I get that everyone is out here trying to make a way financially in the business of music, but look here. PRODUCERS/DJs there's a way to speak correctly to talent (MCs, rappers, vocalists) if U want to barter work-for-hire. Rude comments when U are the one asking for a "feature" are not the biz. "I don't pay rappers" sounds like A HOST OF FUCKERY AND THE ANTITHESIS OF BUSINESS. It sounds, from the jump, that NO ONE is going to make A THIN DIME. If U mean there is no budget, why not say that in the initial outreach for the "feature"? Barter is cool...

I had a choice this week, an extremely difficult choice where I could of made a good chunk of money. But I would've had to deal with/talk to/negotiate with an executive at RSE/Rhymesayers.
