Coachella. I'd been the very first year ever, when it was held in Summer. It was ONE HUNDRED TWENTY DEGREES FAHRENHEIT and I was running from stage to stage taking pics and documenting for platform.net (the original website of crafted by the grafted!!)

Kool Keith... performing inside a hot dusty sweaty tent, his plastic Elvis/Jermaine Jackson wig literally & figuratively melting into his actual scalp... It was a menagerie of dusty filthy barefoot patchouli-scented mixed with underarm-funk whitewimminz with like ... 50 BIPOC dancing on beat.

DOOM MEMORY of this morning.

A thread.

At the studio/lab in Medina/Brooklyn I constantly played music. There was a used music shop down the road. Prior to moving to NY for work at Complex, I had come to visit to stay with my Play Brother JASE and his at the time lady. ... So when the job came up, and DOOM and GRIMM required for me to move to NY, all at once...I asked play bro bro and he said come live there and get a place in his building. I did and it became the studio, the office, the mixing/mastering lab, of course the kitchen/restaurant, etc.

Every day, until November 1 (Dia de Los Muertos) I'm going to be sharing food resources online vis-a-vis DOOM. One of his missions was to "feed the children like Sally Struthers" and the mission continues.

MF DOOM's Villainous Mac & Cheeze (Arthur, 2005) arthurmag.com/2009/09/16/mf-… Did you know that you can volunteer your time, or give money, or donate food at a food bank near you??

feedingamerica.org/take-action

This is just one organization, but you can visit their site to learn more. EVERYONE has a local food bank & it is very rewarding to volunteer there.

DOOM Memory of the evening.

In 1996 I moved to New York, Brooklyn to be exact, and I started a temp job at Gee Street Records.

Too Poetic, may he rest in peace/paradise, was alive then but had already been diagnosed with cancer of the brain.

RZA often stopped by the office... I was more impressed by Frukwan & DJ Prince Paul, being a huge Stetsasonic fan, myself. I often greeted them + the dozens of artists signed to Gee Street or with label deals under them, like Tragedy Khadafi's 25 II Life label. One day Prince Paul was in office so was Chubb Rock.

meanwhile I have never in my natural life seen a white man and exclaimed "LORD his HAIR so BEAUTIFUL!" and if anyone else out here has ... I have some terrible news for you. It is likely that you're suffering from the effects of false-white-"supremacy". seek help early & often. One of the craziest convos ever in my life was with my Muslimah Sister we'll call her Khameelah. She visited me at Auntie's house & we were in my room, so we de-'Jabbed. She exclaimed my hair was so nice & I said "it's weird, part straight, part curly, too thin..." I told her...

I’m going to give MCs & producers time to sort it out + realize they have to pay one another lol. But the vultures & compilers & “mixtape” cats pressing up vinyl + not paying people? You’re already done. Find a new hustle. I keep my eye on the whole indie world. Go that way fast. I’ve been DMinf and emailing record money thieves for months now. Letting artists know when they’re being bootlegged & by whom. By 2021 most artists will be on the true indie wave 🌊 let the Euro labels dry up unless they’re owned by POC. Put a machete to a bootleggers wrist. I’A

Growing up everyone judged my one Auntie who was only married for a few, and who never remarried or had any babies. My mother & her oldest Sister talked bad on her name, I remember hearing it as a child. But when my Mom put me out in the street as a teen, it was THAT auntie ... who took up the slack and took me in from going to one friend's house to the other, essentially homeless as a teen. When my cousin Vee turned up with a Mexican woman who was pregnant (he met her there & she didn't speak English) his family was foul. It was "single" Auntie to ...

The #NationalDaughtersDay posts make me laugh, but they make me cry too. Although I have no living children, I would have had four Sons if any had lived.

I love seeing all my Nieces thriving and shining. One of my eldest is a college grad now, working in film/tv even in "covid" I got to "see" 2 of my other nieces today on Zoom. My @j2trippy is a college graduate, successful in music, & opening an art gallery soon. PRAISE HER. Her younger Sis @graceandakira has a line of books, a book club & today told me "I've been working on my beats in Garage Band".

I * believe women *trust survivors *lived in Minneapolis for one year *worked on an event there within the Hip Hop and Art communities *the event was centered on Women in Hip Hop, B-Girls, Lady Graffiti Artists, "Female" DJs... The event was called B-Girl Be, it took place at @intermedia_arts and was founded/organized by women either from or in the Hip Hop community in Minnesota. I worked on research, sponsorship, booking artists/speakers alongside the rest of the all-women/femme committee. U know who

Every year on this day I take a holiday for myself. You have no idea what Muslims have had to endure on this day. Or any Brown people period. I was forced on this day to assault/batter a man who attacked my taxi driver (he was a Sikh) for being “mooslem”. That was an ugly day... The propaganda on this day worked so quickly that within hours of the first tower strike the “ugly amerikkkans” were on the attack. I left the @Complex offices after KET & I watched the news online and saw the plane strike. I walked outside to hail a cab back to Brooklyn. ...

I come from a millionaire father who tried to starve me to death, who left me homeless more than once... Generosity comes from my Mother's side of the family. My Granddaddy was GENEROUS and helpful, especially toward the women in the family. I have always made my own money. ... I've never been in boyfriend/girlfriend relationships, rarely if ever been to movies, dinner, date nights, etc. The men who've bought things for me were dope boys for whom I did work, and later music artists for whom I did work. Those are GRATUITIES. I've *NEVER* gold-dug. ...

I get that everyone is out here trying to make a way financially in the business of music, but look here. PRODUCERS/DJs there's a way to speak correctly to talent (MCs, rappers, vocalists) if U want to barter work-for-hire. Rude comments when U are the one asking for a "feature" are not the biz. "I don't pay rappers" sounds like A HOST OF FUCKERY AND THE ANTITHESIS OF BUSINESS. It sounds, from the jump, that NO ONE is going to make A THIN DIME. If U mean there is no budget, why not say that in the initial outreach for the "feature"? Barter is cool...

@StevenMOConnor For me with the nas it’s the mass appeal links and connection. For the art cover those youth are from Dallas that’s why nowaah chose it. In my research I found actually @AugustFanon used the photo first. @uproxx nor @Complex @SameOldShawn caught that nor done follow up @StevenMOConnor @AugustFanon @UPROXX @Complex @SameOldShawn So although @ArchitectHHP was super chill in his interview no one ever spoke to Nowaah the Flood and no one looked at how mass appeal frequently blogged Nowaah’s music on the regular then never posted his music again? U wonder if nas requested that to happen... mysterious!

I had a choice this week, an extremely difficult choice where I could of made a good chunk of money. But I would've had to deal with/talk to/negotiate with an executive at RSE/Rhymesayers. My Sister @PsalmOne and a cadre of other humans have already said it is #BoycottRhymesayers There are a number of cases within the label, in particular members of DOomtree and the punk/hip hop MC P.O.S. a variety of accusations and alleged incidents. I'm an abolitionist I am not a sit around and wait for a white man in a uniform or a robe to tell me to BELIEVE WOMEN.

Rappers, none of U have ever committed domestic violence toward me. The man who raped me when I was in my teens is long dead, outing him wouldn't be useful. I can only say to artists (and regular gentlemen alike) if you're reading this and have beaten a woman, raped someone, ... or otherwise have abused or are in the process of abusing women, children, elders - first of all, we see U. Please seek help right away, if you're reading this and don't know where to turn, as an empath who is already overwhelmed, I will allow U to DM me and I'll find help for U.

any time you're working on music w/ another artist, producer, DJ, singer, songwriter, rapper, MC, session musican, you should always have some kind of document. I keep a short, mostly blank form for people to have at the studio. the date, whether it is work for hire, names, ... the tentative song title, who produced it, length, BPMs, samples used, and for each artist regardless of role their full name, mailing address, social or taxpayer ID, phone #, email, SOCIAL MEDIA HANDLES (so important nowadays), cost if work for hire, paid or invoiced, PUBLISHING

i have a lot of sympathy for others who are in rural areas, who rely on USPS to ship prescriptions, those who are differently abled, and other kinds of small businesses.

HOWEVER. I work in Hip Hop and we used to rely on touring and selling cds/vinyl/tapes/digital music to live. Now, touring is out. Friends of mine are out hundreds of thousands of dollars they normally depend on every year. Other friends had things booked overseas for the first time, they were close to taking their careers/finances to a next level. We've been shipping still however ...

when I worked at Gee Street Records for Jon Baker, he gave me an envelope to take somewhere. It was close so I decided to walk there, Cali girl FRESH off the plane first time in NY. I got there & Screwdriver opened the door. Then Tragedy came up in a butter-leather Avirex ... I told him I had documents from Gee Street. He asked my name. He recognized the name and asked if I was the same Lady who was visiting Capone of CNN in Wyoming. See, I flew to NY just to go to the jail, but a temp agency got me a job my 2nd day at "hip hop record company". ...
