Performance commands respect. I once ran the whole show.

Congratulations to Coach K on an incredible career at @DukeMBB. 5 national titles makes him a legend, even if so many of his recent teams loaded with @NBA talent repeatedly disappointed in March. For Duke fans that resent that characterization, I have receipts… Since K’s last national title in 2015, the NBA will have drafted 21 @DukeMBB players, including 9 LOTTERY PICKS. Most programs don’t have that kind of talent in a century and Coach K had it in less than a decade. Yet, they never won a title and only made 1 Final Four. Why?

1/@AndrewParkernando & @DanKanenando are so atrocious it’s easy to forget how bad the N&O organization is.
After their vituperative editorial about UNC’s “disgraceful legal dodge,” it’s time the @newsobserver’s hypocrisy and sanctimony are called out.

And if I don’t, who will? 2/In the NCAA case, UNC simply pursued a fair hearing where the evidence could be applied to established rules. Nothing more, nothing less.

Throughout the protracted NCAA investigation, the News & Observer excoriated UNC’s legal defense and lack of accountability.

1/Last week, the News & Observer wrote an editorial ostensibly about the NCAA declining to regulate academic fraud.  However, the @newsobserver couldn’t hide their enduring resentment toward UNC’s successful defense and exoneration by the NCAA. 2/At a 2017 hearing, the NCAA Committee on Infractions (an independent panel of university presidents, conference commissioners and even a US Attorney General) carefully considered the evidence and determined all allegations against UNC were baseless.

1/My engagement with UNC’s NCAA investigation did not begin in earnest until late 2016, but, in doing due diligence to understand the scope of the project, I read numerous @newsobserver articles written by Dan Kane, Andrew Parker and staff going back to 2011. 2/While their understanding of NCAA rules was rudimentary, I appreciate gumshoe journalists grinding for stories and believe deeply in the role journalists play in holding truth to power. As I analyzed the back story in preparation, I was initially impressed with the N&O team.
