You need to complete 1,200 hours of education to get a cosmetology license in Florida but starting tomorrow there will no longer be a training requirement to carry a concealed weapon. It’s lunacy. A John’s Hopkins University study found that states that loosened or eliminated the mandate for concealed carry permits saw a 13-15% higher violent crime rate.

A school bus driver in Minnesota was shot in the head on Wednesday while young children were on board. In other countries, that would dominate the national news. In America, it’s just another day. And get this, the Minnesota school bus shooting on Wednesday wasn’t even the only school bus shooting this month. Less than a week earlier, a school bus full of middle school students was shot at in North Carolina.

Since Publix has been in the news lately, here’s a short thread about their recent political contributions. In 2018, during the Florida Republican Gubernatorial primary, news broke that candidate Adam Putnam had received $670,000 in contributions over the course of the last three years.

October is National Arts and Humanities month. Yes, it’s hard to focus on that while the world is on fire, but here’s a thread on the important role arts and culture played in prior administrations and a discussion about its total absence in the Trump White House. To my knowledge, in the time that Donald Trump has been president, the White House has not hosted a single cultural event. No poetry readings or dance recitals. No concerts, no acting workshops, no children’s talent shows. Nothing.

Donald Trump is an anti-Semite. This isn’t a new development. He’s always been this way. We’ve known it since the ‘80’s when he said that “the only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes.” In 2015 Donald Trump told the Republican Jewish Coalition that "I'm a negotiator like you folks” and "You're not going to support me because I don't want your money.”

In 2016 he tweeted an image of Hillary Clinton that displayed a star of David over a pile of money.
