Most don't know this about me, but I actually have a famous brother.
Today is the 21st birthday of his discovery described as “a start for population genomics”.
This is one of the most important papers written on mitochondrial DNA and the origins of modern humans.

1/ On this day in 2000, my brother Max and his colleagues at @UU_University and @MPI_EVA_Leipzig described their analysis of the divergence of sequences in human mitochondrial DNA. The research supported the view that modern humans originated in Africa.

I wanted to share my experience as a peer-review panel member for the recent #NHMRC Investigator grants. #MedicalResearch @NHMRC @TheASMR1 @GregHuntMP @nhmrc @TheASMR1 @GregHuntMP I’ve been an NHMRC assessor on ECR/MCR fellowship panels for the past 4 years, this restructure is changing how we assess research excellence. We, as Australian medical researchers, are all invested in this new scheme and we need it to be successful to support our sector.
